Reflections on the puddle of life

A poem (not one of mine!)

So, I'm kinda pretty busy at the moment: working, writing and generally getting from one day to the next. My novel is coming along slowly, but I have a strong theme and a lot of research to do which is fun.

My son is currently learning about creative writing in school, and last week he was asked to write a poem about wind. This is what he wrote:

The Blustering Wind

Who has seen the wind?
Blowing down the trees
Leaves blowing down the street
Water jumping up and down
and gates flying open and closed.

Who has heard the wind?
Rustling through the leaves
The wind howls like a wolf
and crashes through the trees.

Balls blowing away from children
Birthday cards blowing out of windows
Models blow off window-sills
and break in pieces on the floor.

My son is 8, and this is his first poem. He'd love to know what you think of it.

You can tell him from me that it's bloody fine! It is vivid and it has a good command of form!

And I like the title, too.

I thought you may have made a typo and meant to say '18', such is the quality of this.

    Wow.

Wow, that is excellent for an eight year old. *applause* *bravo* Tell him we applauded. I do see he's picked up your theme of pernicious nature.

Hey thanks everyone I'll tell him all the feedback when I get home tonight. He will be and I think!

hehehe Virgil there is a story behind the 'balls blowing away from children' which he has obviously never forgotten. When he was, maybe 4 years old we went to the beach at Southport. Now Southport is one of those places where the beach stretches on for miles before you get to the sea, and we had taken his favourite Power Rangers ball with us. Needless to say, the wind caught it and it started rolling along the beach towards the sea which was very far out in the distance. My husband chased it, chased it, chased it, chased it until we could only just see him but it always kept one step ahead. So in the end he had to give up and the ball was lost, but it was so funny watching him chasing fruitlessly after this ball that no one was really too bothered; we were all too busy laughing!

That's a neat family story that will stay with the both of you forever.
