Our Visit

Rate this Entry
This past Friday, the hubby and I went to meet our adoption coordinator. The drive was supposed to take about 1 hour and 40 minutues. It took us a little bit longer because we got lost. Well not really lost, we passed a street that we should have taken a left on but because the street sign wasn't pronounced we missed it. We ended up being late by 15 minutes.
We finally meet our new coordinator and our previous one. They both started talking to us about the program we had decided on. The biggest news that we receieved that made me want to jump up and down for joy, kiss their feet, etc was that my hubby DOES NOT NEED a COPY of his BIRTH CERTFICATE!!!! For those of you that have been following our journey, I have stated several times that we were having a problem in getting his birth certficate since he was born outside the US. The country that we are going to adopt from does not need it but if we had continued with our first choice then he would have needed it.
When it got time to discuss the paperwork, I proceeded to take out my folders. That morning I had consolidated all the folders into 3One folder of signed and notarized papers to be turned in, the second of what still needs to be completed and the last one a general info folder. They were quite impressed with how organized we were and how much paperwork we had completed. Turns out this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as paperwork is concerned. There's much more to come There's one thing that will consist of 200 pages (yes, 200 PAGES!!!!). This document is in English and the countries official language which is why it is so big.
So, where does that leave us ? Well, if we can complete the balance of paperwork by the end of this year and get the dossier sent to the country early next year, by mid to end of 2009, we will have our child home with us.
We will have to make 2 trips to the country. The first trip is for approximately 5 weeks. Yes thats a very long time but during this time is when we select our child and start the bonding process as well as more paperwork. We then go home and wait to hear from them and then go back for about another week or two and come home with our new son or daughter. We can choose to stay there the entire time but as it is it's a long time for my hubby to be away from work and I certainly do not want to stay there by myself.
Getting all this paperwork turned in has been a big load off my shoulders and am now getting ready for the next set of hurdles.
There were a lot of other topics discussed ( some of which I was not to thrilled about) but this blog is long enough as it is so I'll end it here.
2009 is going to be our year!!!!!

I was beginning to wonder if you were going to blog about this! But I noticed that you weren’t on much this weekend so I figured it would be today. What wonderful news! I didn’t think the blog was too long. I want to hear the rest of the story, so please blog again soon. I’m so very happy for you and your husband and that little baby that is alive right now (even if it’s not born yet and it’s growing for you!) waiting for his/her family to all come together. I bet if you stretch your heart out you can feel his/her little heart beating! Again, I’m so happy for you.

So, are you just in the process of doing what needs to be done to be eligible to adopt a child? Is there a specific child that has already been born that you're going to take home, or do you just go there and choose from what's available when you get all the papers done and everything? i know that's a horrible way to put it (choose from what's available...didn't know how else to say it...choose from who's available maybe). It's a lot of work, and there's so much uncertainty. Do you have names picked out? Or i wonder if the child will already be named? Or am I just getting way ahead of the game? Anyway, congrats on getting over this hurdle!!

Shalot: yes, we are still in the process of doing the paperwork that will enable us to adopt a child. We still need to complete our home study and complete a few other documents for the adoption agency. Once that is all completed and documented , the next phase is getting our dossier done. This involves a ton of more paperwork and then gets sent to the country where we are going to adopt. We will have a liason that works with the adoption agnecy here in the states who will then search for a child for us based on our criteria. Once they find said children, we will then get an invitation to travel to the country and meet this children. From there we pick a child that we feel will be a good fit ( I know this sounds horrible but I also don't know how else to word it). Once that is done more paperwork needs to be finalized before we can bring the child home. As far as the child's name, he/she will have a name that they were born with but we will change that name once he/she is ours. We do not have any names picked out yet since it's kind of early at this point.
I am sure this sounds very complicated to all and when I have time I will try to outline the whole process so everyone has a better understanding of what the adoption process entails.

pussnboots, I got shivers reading this post and want so badly for it to go smoothly from here on in. Glad that you decided to meet directly with the agency officials. I am also pleased they were impressed with your organization of the important papers, and that the birth certificate is unnecessary. I have known people who went through this same long and grueling process, just as you described and they did indeed come home with their child; it just takes time, but it is worth it. These foreign children are in great need of love; I appreciate that you and your husband wish to open your hearts and your home to this child. My cousin adopted from Korea and their Luke is the greatest guy in the world, smart, happy, nice and actually he turned out to be an talented engineer. He was given much love, when he came to American and every oportunity to make his life a good one. I know that 2009 will indeed be your year! I pray for it all the time and know in my heart it will happen for you.

Wonderful news! It must feel like such an unbearably long wait, but I suppose it is much closer at hand than when you first started the adoption process. Best wishes

Hey pussnboots, that is, indeed, wonderful news. I am so glad for you and your husband. I know, from what little I admittedly know of you, that you will be wonderful parents, and that little baby will have the best life ever!

I will think positive thoughts and say a prayer that when you arrive your beautiful child will find you.
