Visit to Adoption Agency

Rate this Entry
This Friday, my husband and I are going to take a drive to meet with our adoption coordinator. We feel it would be best to do this since all communication has been over the phone or via email. I have been going thru all the paperwork that is required to make sure all is on order. I have gone over it so many times I can't look at it anymore !!!. Tomorrow I have to go to a notary and have some papers signed. Once that is done I need to make copies so we have for our file. My husband is still having a problem obtaining copies of his birth certificate. I am so frustrated over this. I am hoping they can offer us some help but I am not going to hold my breath. Our last big obstacle is getting our finger prints done and some other minor paperwork.
We still have to send paperwork to our Home Study Coordinator as well. Some of it is the same that the adoption agency requires and some isn't. The paperwork is so overwhelming! It's a good thing that I am an organized person. I have each piece of paperwork in a separate folder. May sound dorky but it works for me!!! I must have at least 10 folders.
Our mother's still don't know what we are up to. We feel until we really have something to share there is no need to say anything at this point. Knowing my mom the way I do, she would probably start shopping now
So now I am thinking, what should I wear?
I'm thinking a nice pair of slacks which I really don't have or a skirt which I do have. I am opting for the slacks so I guess I have to buy a pair tomorrow. I'll be nervous as it is so I want to be comfortable.
Hopefully they won't think we are strange in any way
I am also hoping my dear husband doesn't go blank on me like he did with the Home Study.
My next objective is to complete the online course I took so I can hopefully get my certificate.
My goal is to have all paperwork completed and submitted no later than the end of the year and then it'll just be a waiting game for a referral.
Wish us luck on Friday and I'll be sure to post about the visit after we get back.

Hope for the best for Friday. I believe you'll do fine. Just be yourselves. As to the fingerprints would a police department/notary republic help with that maybe? Only takes about two minutes to get printed (as I am annoyed knowing as part of an arson investigation back in the Air Force days--pompus OSI agents and I'm being VERY restrained saying that).

are you still thinking about overseas adoption? Good luck!! I can't believe all the paperwork you have to do. It's crazy. All you're trying to do is provide a loving home for a human being but you have to jump through hoops. but, if you wanted to be a foster parent, you'd have no trouble!! (actually, I don't know that for sure, but it seems that way from what i've read). again, good luck

Still wishing you both the best of luck:) I'm sure the amount of paperwork is insane, but it is all worth it. I hope both you and your husband can straiten the birth certificate issue out soon and things can start moving along soon. I don't think I've ever asked, but are you planning to adopt a baby or an older child? Much Love, Meg

since this will be our first, our preference is a baby but we have to keep our options open

pussnboots, best of luck to you and your husband. I will say a prayer all goes well. It must be so overwhelming, but you seem to have handled it all very well and you were persistent. I think it takes that sense of 'persistence' to be sucessful in a huge undertaking such as this. I understand about your mother. Does your husband's mother know of it, or will that also be a surprise?

I think if you dress nicely (either skirt or pants), but not overly dressed, it will be just fine - just wear what you are used to wearing and feel comfortable/natural in. That is the key to looking confident. I also am just like you - keeping folders, so I don't see that as dorky at all. If I did not do that, I would be totally lost and the amount of paperwork you must have to deal with, now requires it.

You seem to be doing a very good job and I wish you all the sucess with it. I think your efforts will pay off in the end and you will have sweet child to love soon.

I checked with AAA today hoping finger prints were part of the passport section but no go. Advice given stands: Police department is your best bet on getting certified prints. Will be hoping things move along. Some friends at church have adopted and seems to take roughly six months to a year. Best wishes and I know you'll be fine parents.
