I have, I believe, posted some of my own personal art to LitNet before... and some of it can be found on the web without much effort as a result of my postings to several art groups... nevertheless, as there have been several requests I will offer a brief overview of my own artistic efforts.
I was clearly no child prodigy...
Indeed, looking at some of my earliest art it is obvious that there wasn't much in my work stands out as different from the art of most children of a similar age. I probably developed what artistic skills I have largely as a result of the fact that I was rapidly able to comprehend and remember most everything I read. While other students were still struggling through Tom Sawyer I was sitting at my desk drawing complex underground battle scenes, convoluted mazes, or Surrealistic high-school sexual fantasies. Whatever... by the time I had applied to art school, however, I had developed few more skills than I I had in elementary school. Art school put these skills to the test... pushing them further than I had ever imagined.
Like most art students I spent my days in art school copying works by the "old masters"...
engaged in "life drawing"...
(Contrary to the fantasy image of the bohemian artist in his studio with an attractive model, not all of those figures that we drew from were anything near this... or any other... ideal)
I also explored the possibilities of landscapes...
... as well as the still life:
As a typical angst-laden twenty-some year-old all of my work tended to be quite dark and brooding:
As I was given free reign to begin to develop my own artistic voice employing the various elements and techniques I had explored, the work took on a deeply disturbing psycho-sexual aspect heavily informed by the works of Edvard Munch and the German Expressionists.
Queen of the Night
Such an approach continued into the work immediately following my graduation from art school:
Halloween for Max
The Westsiders
