First thing and the most important thing about this blog entry, please read my short story "The Sun at the End of Life" and please give me feedback, especially where I can improve the story: http://www.online-literature.com/for...ad.php?t=37956. This was my entry into the Aug 08 competition and nearly won. Shucks, so close.
Second, I'm back from vacation as you can see. It was a driving trip. Round trip this took 1735 miles (2778 km), and the main thrust was Chicago. We had never been to Chicago and frankly I was impressed. Downtown Chicago is very nice and while I wouldn't say it's New York City, I can't think of another American city that has the architecture, the museums, and the activities. It is way better than Los Angeles.Besides sight seeing, we went to a Cubs baseball game and then one night to a Blues club. Chicago is one of the cities that is at the heart of the roots of blues and given my love of blues music I had to go to a club. Acutally there was a blues club right behind the hotel and owned by Buddy Guy (a blues legend, if any have heard of him). Playing that night was someone named Johnny Rawls and he was great. Here's his website: http://www.johnnyrawls.net/. I had never heard of him but I was impressed. Here are some youtube clips: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8D5LCE8NCw.
I'll post a few pictures of Chicago when I get a chance. The trip included stops at my sister in Ohio, and my nephew in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He goes to University of Michigan. And there was the family affair we had that was the reason for us going out in the first place. It was a full ten days. A lot of driving, but even with the gas prices it was cheaper than two airline tickets and a rental car.![]()
