rabbits, chickens, and apples

I’ve started this three times and it just keeps rambling into nothing. I got a very nice rabbit hutch for free yesterday and I’m very excited about it. My husband added on to the chicken house so that I would have a place for the rabbits and the bunny hutch fits in just right. I’m going to go get some feed tomorrow and I’ll be ready for rabbits. My bunny hutch is so nice. It’s much nicer than I had imagined being able to get. It works out so often that we are abundantly blessed with just what we need. This man also gave us 43 eggs to put in the incubator. I have around 41 chickens, but I’m only getting one egg a day. Most of the chickens are just babies, but the hens are game hens and they like being mothers. I’m glad, but when they have small babies they don’t lay. I have one hen that is a mix between a cinnamon queen and a road island read that gives us one egg every day and she doesn’t want to sit at all. The eggs in the incubator are the cinnamon queen/road island red mix. That will give us a good mix of hens that like to lay and hens that like to sit. By march I should be getting several dozen a day. I credit my dog JoJo with our great chicken success. I haven’t lost a chicken since he’s been on the job.

Ike blew through last night. We only got 2 1/2 inches of rain this time, but the wind was really something. There are over 100,000 people in Arkansas without power. There are trees up everywhere. My husband spent the afternoon cutting wood and I guess that’s how we’ll be spending most of the next two weeks. I’m to afraid to run a chainsaw, but I don’t mind to split wood. It’s going to be a busy week. The county fair is this week and my husband will have to be a policeman there. We also have parent teacher conference, company coming- two different sets on two different days, and turkey, apples, and nuts to put up.

I’ve put up close to 100 jars of apples. Mostly apple sauce, but some others that are chunks in a syrup. We like to have the chunks served hot over vanilla ice cream in the winter. This past week I’ve been freezing some Grimes Golden apples. I did a bushel and got blisters on my hand so my husband bought me an apple corer, peeler, slicer and another bushel of apples. It was a very nice present.

The apples and icecream sound delicious!! You must be so busy with all those things that you have to do! I don't think I'd manage doing it, but it's always great to hear about what you're up to

I really hate the fair. It's crowded and dirty and I worry that I'll loose a child. We went last year so I don't feel like we have to go this year. Next year I think they may show some animals so we'll have to go.
