I am taking a class in the American Novel, and classes start like next week, so I just got the list of books we will be reading in class.

Two of them, The Great Gatsby and The Sun Also Rises I have already read

And Winseberg, Ohio, is one on of my book lists to read, though I don't know anything about it.

The others I really haven't heard anything about.

So here is the list.

The Sun Also Rises
The Great Gatsby
Winesberg, Ohio

  1. Sweets America's Avatar
By "Their Eyes Were Watching", you mean "Their eyes were watching God", no? By Zora Neale Hurston? I studied it in my first year of American Literature, about the Harlem Renaissance. I liked the book, that was an interesting story. About self-fulfilment and such. I don't remember everything but the class was great.
  2. Virgil's Avatar
What's Three Lives? I've never heard of it. Winesboro is a great collection of short stories by Sherwood Anderson. I think you will enjoy it.
  3. Dark Muse's Avatar
Ahh yes that is what I meant Sweets, somehow I must have wrote it down wrong, or did not see the rest of the titile

I have no idea what Three Lives is, but it is by Gertrude Stein, though do not know who she is either.

Big Money? Dos Passos. Lucky Dog.
Gertrude Stein is an American feminist of the early 20th century.
Winesburg is on my list also.
As far as the American novel goes, these seem to be pretty tightly packed in terms of time period. All about 1900-1930. This has been my focus of late. I'll be interested in how the class addresses this collection of works.
