First a little update. Mason is still very sick. They are treating him for tick fever which is pretty serious. Here is a link if you are interested.

Scary, but I know he could be much much worse.
Tuesday was Mason’s sixth birthday. He planned this huge meal with pork chops, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, carrots, broccoli, rolls, watermelon, cherries, chocolate cake and ice cream. I spent a lot of time cooking and the poor thing couldn’t eat a bite. He was happy though and smiled a lot. He did blow out the candles and poke around on some ice cream, I don’t think he actually ate any.
Anyway, he’s a very tinder boy and also very nervous. Dogs frighten him for the most part. JoJo doesn’t scare him for some reason. I don’t really understand it because JoJo is now as big as Mason and he has a very macho bark. The dog loves the kids and I think to Mason JoJo is still just a big baby- and he is. Mason is more of a cat person, like me. Tuesday while his fever was down I took him to the humane shelter to adopt a kitten. All of the kids came along. It was traumatic for my Chaney. All of the cats came up to the bars on their little compartments and meowed and reached their paws out to be held. Wall to wall, floor to ceiling cats reaching out and it really frightened her. She cried later and I don’t blame her. After petting every cat that didn’t have an eye infection we finally chose this little bitty crumb of a tabby kitten. From nose to rear he isn’t six inches long and I doubt he weighs enough to measure. He had been brought in that morning and was very frightened. They arranged an the procedure and the kitty gets to come home today. I’m hoping Mason’s fever is down this afternoon so we can pick him up.
Mason considered several possible names for the little guy and finally came up with Super Soprano. When he said it I giggled because of the snipping that is happening today and so he stuck with that name. Later when Mason is older he will understand why I laughed, but right now he doesn’t and I’m not going to explain.
