Halls of the Dark Muse

Late night reading

Rate this Entry
I had a bit a time ago recivied several volumes of work by varrious different authors. And than for no other reason but becasue they happend to be in my pocession, I decided well obviously I needed to read all of them though some of them were from authors I had not previously really heard of before. Some of them did have works in them I acutally had already wanted to read anyway.

But well I was trying to figure out how I was going to fit this into my already gazzilon books I have to read, and the fact that I am already reading several other things.

So I got the idea, that I would choose one of the volumes more or less at random and read a little bit from it every night right before going to bed. Which is fun considering it is often between 12-1 that I do finally go to bed.

And I acutally do keep the book under my pillow becasue it seems the easist place to store for reading at night.

So I ended up starting with Robert Louis Stevenson and I have not previously read anything by him before. But it has been kind of fun becasue his stories seem to often be filled with mystery and adventure, which is fun to read late at night.

So far I have only finnised Treasure Island, and Dr. Jykell and Mr. Hyde. Right now I am on Kidnapped, which I am acutally liking better than the first so so far.

I really ought to read more Stevenson. I've read Treasure Island as a boy and loved it. He's got the reputation of being such a fine stylist, one that writes perfect sentences in his sleep.

When I was first married I would have to sneak books if I want to read in the bed at night. My husband would say “What are you doing?!” in a less than curious voice. He has become more understanding over the years, but every once in a while he fusses at me.
