Well, one of my favorite authors has passed away, and I'm feeling the void of losing a favorite author. I always found some of his books to be so outlandish at first, but then I would warm up to them. Slaughterhouse 5 was one of the first books I read, which so candidly expressed the authors ability to escape his present to wander time (going so far as to have imagined himself living with a movie star on a different planet in all times at once. I applaud him on standing up and saying war is wrong, of course after surviving the firebombing of Dresden, Germany how could anyone stand to see more suffering. His criticism of the current administration is so accurate that it is uncanny.

I guess my closest moments shared with the author were while reading his book 'Fates Worse Than Death'. The book chronicles his families struggles with depression. I was reading it during a very cold winter. I was homeless, destitute, broken (a mending broken collar bone and recent ACL injury), and in the throes of a major depression. I found some comfort in knowing that others have passed through their difficult times, and eventually worked my way back from a frazzled mental and physical state.

So here's to an American original that won't be forgotten.
Peace...so it goes...
