Nine Inch Nails -- WOOT!

Less than 36 hours for me to have to wait to see one the greatest bands of our times perform in the city closest to me.

I have a great affection for the lead man, who really is the heart and soul of NIN, Mr. Trent Reznor. His music varies from the most delicate of delicate to the harsh metal and grinding that many feel are deafening and just noise. But that is what I like about it -- his 'stuff' is always appealing, refreshing and different than anything I hear out there.

The lyrics are also a kaleidoscope of emotion, varying from takes on political opinion, to the strains of love/love lost, the haunting lyrics of the chains of addiction, and pretty much Reznor puts to words some of the thoughts that I have had. And I think to myself, 'OMG, someone out there has words to feelings that I have felt.' I can relate.

It may seem odd that someone 'like me' has such an affection for NIN, Trent and so on -- but The Man In Black, Johnny Cash, also found truth and identification with Trent's music in the song "Hurt". Johnny recorded this and there is a music video that will make you goosebump and maybe even cause a tear to the eye (I can never watch this with a dry eye, honest, it is Johnny at his rawest). Please see The Man In Black Performs HURT -- for a four minute thought-provoking performance.

As well, there is an interview done with Trent on his feelings about Johnny Cash having done his hit Hurt, which I found to be a good read -- Reznor on Cash's Version of HURT

Anyhow, there you have it -- one prairie chicken counting the hours till the big moment -- Trent Reznor in the same room as me -- WOOT!

I've heard of Nine Inch Nails, but I can't think of a single song of theirs. Have fun and enjoy it.

"Head Like a Hole" was amazing, but after Pretty Hate Machine they put out The Downward Spiral. And after they released the single "Closer," NIN began it's own downward spiral. Well, it wasn't exactly a downward spiral -I just wanted to use a clever little gimmick thingie there in my writing- it was more like a sudden unexpected slip down 5 stairs of a ladder that leaves you with a stupid, surprised, expression on your face and no major injuries.
"Closer" was like a Madonna stunt to me - it was so "in your face" and overtly sexual that it was just silly. Unless Rezner's purpose was to be silly, I have to say that "Closer" just SUCKED. "Hurt," was amazing - at the time. I still think it's a good song, but I have a hard time listening to it now. I guess Johnny Cash would've wanted to remake that song. And it is funny how Trent Rezner said in one of the articles you linked that he'd have never expected Johnny Cash to re-record one of his songs. It's such an unlikely re-make.

Enjoy Kiz. Not so odd that you like NIN, I'm a fan too:) I think Hurt is likely my favorite, but I would have to think to really pick just one. Have a good time. Take Care, Meg
