It was a perfect day

Rate this Entry
Do you ever have those days that can't really be described as anything other than perfect? I worked my tail off on the house yesterday so I could enjoy the day with the kids today. They spent yesterday with their Nanna, so I cleaned and cleaned on the house. The good news is that this left me entirely free today so that I was able to just enjoy my time with no other worries.

Our morning started out with breakfast with Mom. Garrick was thrilled to have breakfast with Grandma, and Victoria was just happy to eat. My little girl does love her food. I think she takes after her momma with that. I love to eat, and it is a huge portion of why I must work so hard to keep myself mostly thin. It was a good time, and the kids ate a ton. My mom and I talked about her business and some of the things that I'm working on to help her out.

The we ran to the store to pick up all that we needed to have out picnic lunch. It was a quick in and out trip, and both the kids were angels. If you only knew how rare that is you would understand my surprise. Garrick especially hates to go grocery shopping, and he didn't put up a bit of fuss.

After gettting all the supplies, we were off to the Cincinnati Nature Center. If you're in the area and have never been, this is a great place to go. For me it is really good since it is only five minutes from home. It's open to pets too, so I can take the kids and the dogs to go hiking. Today it was just the kids and I, but we spent a couple of hours hiking around the forest before enjoying a picnic lunch sitting by the lake. It was great to watch the turtles sunning themselves, and Victoria loved the butterflies. We saw a really pretty black and blue one that I was wishing for a camera to take a photo of. Don't be surprised to see many pictures from there when I have my camera back. I broke down and bought the annual pass, so we are sure to be down there an awful lot.

The day still wasn't finished for us. After the Nature Center, we made the short drive to my Grandma's house to visit. If you've been reading my blog for a long time, then you may remember that I really only have the one set of grandparents. The're my Daddy's parents, and they mean the world to me. When I was a child I speant the summers there swimming in the pool and enjoying late nights. My Grandmother watched me and my sister all summer, and enjoying the walks with my kids today was just like things she used to do with us. So to go over for a visit, and to spend the remainder of the day swimming, laughing, and enjoying the time with both my Grandma and Grandpa really brought forth a sense of nostagia. I'll blog a bit more about the summers there another time since there is so much to tell, and this is already getting a bit long.

All in all it was a wonderful day. My children got to enjoy quality time with both me and with two of the people who were such a force in making me the woman that I am today. I love that I was able to share that time with them since spending the remaining years that my grandparents have left with them, rather than constantly far away, was one of my driving forces for coming home. I want my kids to know them, and I would love nothing more than for both of them to have real memories of them. Maybe they'll look back when they're my age and remember them with the same charmed affection as I do. I also took pleasure in the time myself. There is something very settling and grounding for me about being at their house. A day at their house is better than an entire week of vacation. I'm just as relaxed and my head is clear for the first time in weeks.

I hope everyone else had just as good of a day, and maybe you will have some of the same loving memories that I do of the day to store away. Enjoy the last bit of your weekend.

Much love,
Meg

that was wonderful meg. I'm so happy for you and your kids and the day you spent together. I bet your kids are worn out tonight! I'm glad you posted this. We've been work work work around here for a couple of weeks. I really need to take them to the creek at least. It will be in the 90s this week and we always have a high humidity which makes it worse. That's good swimming weather.

what a wonderful way to spend the day. You're grandparents sound like such wonderful people. I also think it is great that your children spend time with their grandparents. Both sets of my grandparents have been gone for quite sometime and I miss them.
Can't wait to see pictures of your next visit to the Nature center.
