so this is probably the end of chapter three.--------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They made it to his manor three days later, stopping in Londindale, Dacklis, and Anterdes to rest and spend the night. Besides the small talk, their longest conversation was the talk of the nurse. In most of that time, Carmen thought of all that occurred since the inn.
The cities they passed and stopped in were all familiar to her, and she knew she had been through these large cities with the big theatres and vast castles and mansions. She could even name some of the places and some of the people living there. Baron Shinkel of Kittmar Manor, Colonel Dalloway,Earl of Roseden Castle, Marchioness Thimple lives there in the Kildrummy Mansion without her husband... And it was the same with all the cities they went through.
As Carmen looked out the curtains, she was never unaware of the man sitting opposite of her in his carriage, staring a hole through her.
What is he thinking, staring at me for so long? Will he ever stop looking at me? How long before we're there? She asked these three questions more often than not, in between, dwelling on the memories locked behind a door in her head, trying this key and that to see if one of them fit in the lock, one of them to see if it would open this closed door.
She was so intent on finding that one key that when Robert cleared his throat, she jumped and dropped the curtain back in place, averting her eyes to him instead of staring sightlessly out the curtain.
“We're nearing my manor, we will be there before dinner.”
“Ah. Always good news to hear.”
Carmen looked passed the curtain, only now realizing the greenery and trees all around his moving carriage. She was so occupied by her thoughts and questions that she didn't notice that they were slipping farther and farther away from civilization.
“You live outside of the ton?”
“Yes, most of the year, I do.”
“And when do you live otherwise?”
“The summer,as most of the rest like me do. That is when we, being me and others who live in a home out of the ton's regular homes, leave it and move to our townhouses in the summer until the start of fall.”
“I always thought that the whole ton lived together or rather always lived in a- um -civilized place.”
“No, not always.”
Carmen looked at him, then stared out the open curtain again, bestowing the silence that hugged the carriage. She marveled at the lush green treetops, and the deer and stags that loped in and out of the trees here and there. She even admired the great birds that graced the air.
This time, she wasn't aware of anything except the wildlife that laid out around and above her. She didn't notice the the rocking of the carriage, nor the wonder that showed in the expressions on her face. Not even the man, staring at her the whole time.
Robert watched her, wonder taking on his own face. How could he not do anything but stare? Here he was with one of the most beautiful woman he's ever laid eyes on for three days, and all he did was stare.
He was never more happy to see his manor than he was right now. He wasn't sure if a man could go crazy just by staring at a beautiful woman and nothing else, but he felt like he was.
“Oh look! It's marvelous! I've never seen anything like it!” He looked out his own curtain to look at his towering manor. He never thought a huge pile of stones could be so entrancing to anyone, but the way she praised his place, you would've thought she was talking about the king's castle. He didn't even have towers, but she loved it.
When they pulled up to the wide mansion doors, Anira didn't wait for the footman to open the door and help her out, but opened it herself and jumped out. He wondered if she forgot about why she'd came with him
to be cont...
