Diamonds of the Night

The first stars came out of hiding
with days blinding light slowly passing
from the sky, once more they would be allowed
to revel in their own quiet beauty.

Shyly at first, almost coy
they began to emerge
into the vast dark landscape
which they would set ablaze
yet in their own more subtle way.

Unlike the sun of dawn and day
they did not seek to rule over the
sky like some crowned king,

Instead they would be a compliment
adornments to attend to their nightly queen
gems to line her hem, but never overshadow
and overpower.

Still they would not pass ignored
they reveled in their own admiration
and quivered in their delight
as the Night's pleasure was to be their
own.
