It's almost time for my lilies to blossom. Here is a little picture essay of my lilies, pictures taken last year. These are called Stargazer Lilies. Hope you liked.
These are all pink. The close up shows exactly what they are. I have a some white and a yellow too at my mother's house. But when you only have one or two one never knows if it will make it through the winter. But we did have mild winter this year.
My god, they're gorgeous!
Thanks Anza. When you cluster them like that they do make a statement.
OMG, I am so jealous! You would laugh at mine. I have these lilies too - stargazers - love them; but I get about 6 blooms, at the most; that is in a good year. How did you get so many? How many plants are there? You must feed them Miracle Grow everyday. These are really impressive, Virgil. You are a 'real gardener'. Makes me want to scrap my garden, and start all over again. I love lilies!
They're so beautiful!
Actually I think it was my mother's idea, if I'm remembering correctly, to cluster them into a pot. When you cluster them like that you do need to give them extra food. Yes some miracle grow.
Those are awfully pretty. I particularly like the color of those. I always want to have some sort of little flower garden, but I must confess that I am a little lazy when it comes to the thought of taking care of them. I really should stop being that way. Then I can stop being so jealous of everyone else's flowers and have some of my own! But that ain't happening anytime soon. I will just keep seeing everyone else's gardens and secretly hating these people for having something so nice and pretty and then hate myself for being lazy because I could have the same thing if I wasn't so lazy!
Oh my goodness, Virgil, your lilies are gorgeous!!
Wow! These are amazing, Virgil!!
those are really great and you had several yet to bloom. I love lilies, too! I don't even have a flower garden. You did a great job on those, Virgil!
Thanks all. But lilies, and I guess all bulbs, are easy. You just plant them to the right depth and they pretty much do it all themselves. Here though they were in a pot and pressed closer than normal so they did need extra nutrition. But this was easy. I really liked the way the sun was bouncing off them in some of the pictures.
Thanks for sharing those Virgil, they are absolutely beautiful lilies!! They are such lovely hues of pink!!
They're very pretty, Virg. Why are they called "stargazer" btw? Do they bloom at night?
Very beautiful flowers, Virgil!

Countess, Wikipedia has the following on the stargazer: Lilium "Stargazer" (the Stargazer lily) is a hybrid lily of the Oriental group. The ASPCA reports it as toxic to cats.[1] When mature it grows to a height of 36 inches with a spread of 12 to 16 inches with an upright form. It has a fast growth rate and should be planted in full sun in well drained loamy or sandy soil. The flower is pink, red, and white, and is sweetly fragrant. The plant produces 4 to 5 flowers per vag. Stargazer lilyThe Stargazer lily was created in 1978 by Mr. Leslie Woodriff, a Lily breeder in California. It is an Oriental hybrid lily which he called Stargazer because the blooms faced the sky. It is now fairly common throughout North America. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilium_%22Stargazer%22
