Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood

Rate this Entry
It's Memorial Day weekend and what a better time than to start planting my flowers in the backyard and on my deck. The sun is shining and the birds are singing.
Yesterday I started in my backyard. I planted some coleous, white portulaca's, yellow snapdragons, begonia's (pink and white) and some flowers that look like big daisy's.
Today I worked on my deck. I planted marigolds, begonia's, portulaca and some others that I don't know the name of but they were pretty. I have one more pot to plant that sits on my deck railing. That will use up the flowers that I have left. I still have quite a few other pots that I can use for flowers or I'll use those pots for some of the vegetables. I'd like to use them for flowers but my husband may have other plans (most likely vegetables).
I bought a bird feeder the earlier part of the week and when I initially put it out the birds either didn't see it or didn't like where I put it. So I kept changing the location until I found a spot that they could notice it. I have it hanging on my fence. In a weeks time they have eaten 3/4 of the food.
I've been trying to take pictures of them eating the food but if I get to close they fly away. I did manage to get one or two pictures though until my dog scared them away.
Well, anyway I am going to eat something then try my luck in trying to dismantle a wooden bench we have on our deck. This bench has been on our deck for at least 16 years and the wood has started to break. My husband doesn't see whats wrong with it. I guess he doesn't mind getting splinters in his hiny!!
Wishing all a happy memorial day!!!

Oh those flowers sound glorious -- such fun, eh? Good luck with that bench, use gloves to protect yourself from potential splinters!

I'm getting a little jealous of all the talk of spring and gardens - over here it's the end of autumn, going into winter soon, so theres not much hope for flowers right now!!
