I Love The Duck Pond!

Well now that the Duck Pond has been turned back over to the ducks after a wonderful winter of ice skating on it, there is tons of activity there.
The mallard ducks are all swimming in twos -- the colourful green-headed male with the tawny smaller female. It is so cute -- every duck has a partner. And soon they will have sweet fuzzy babies to gaze for hours at.
As well, there are a few families of the Canada Goose settling at this pond, too. Some years there are more geese at the pond than ducks, but not this year.
Anyhow, what I wanted to say was that I saw such a sweet sight there this evening, leaving my heart very warmed and my spirits uplifted. It was drizzling rain, and the sun had long sunk behind the prairie grasses. My friend, Billy, and I decided to take a drive to the Duck Pond to catch sight of the goslings that have recently hatched from the Canada Goose families. (We're still awaiting the mallard babies, but I already said that).
Anyhow, several pairs of mallards were quietly swimming in the pond, and it looked so peaceful. They did not mind at all the drizzle of rain, but rather enjoyed it. It is fun to watch how the couples swim silently together, the male so protective of the female.
BUT: near the fence (that keeps the ducks/geese safe from people who want to get closer looks) was one family of Canada Geese. The mother had her wing wrapped around her little babies, and I spied one little furry head peeping out from under that protective wing. The father stood guard, eyeing Billy and I very closely, lest one of us gets any wise ideas. They silently just sat there, even the babies were quiet (you can usually hear them softly peep-peep-peep, OMG it is too cute).
It was quite a job for the mother to keep her wing snuggled around those little ones, it was evident that she had quite a few under there. Of course I could not see how many there were, but there are usually six to eight babies with each new mother; so we can assume that six to eight little fuzzy goslings were tucked in for the duration of the chilly drizzle.

I guess I'm rambling, but this really nice feeling wrapped around me, just looking at that little family. I wished I could have gotten my own pictures, but it was dark, drizzling and so I used a few I found on Google Search.
I love nature. But then you knew that.

p.s. I am humbled
p.p.s. The Billy mentioned is the same Billy as always -- my bestest of best friends. Billy's her nickname, and it totally suits her, kinda like Kizzo suits me in real life and here -- well, at least I think so.![]()
