^haracter allowence for the title bugs me.

So, as I was in the family car observing the world outside, I noticed a doughnut shop. But the sign didn't say "doughnuts", it merely said "donut". Just "donut". So is it pronounced "doo-nut"? Or is this just an American way of spelling "doughnut"? I past by three "donut" stores by the time I came home. Does anyone have the answer to my stupid question?

Yeah, so...felt a bit timesick today. MST3K always cheers me up, though. I'm in the middle of "Monster A Go-Go", yay. There's also nothing like listening to some classical music composed by Mozart or Vivaldi to make me feel better.

Must be a northern thing. To me doughnuts is the pretentious way of spelling it -- though it is the more accurate to my mind. I just figure donut is quicker on the eye and less lettering on the sign.

As to MST3K my favorite was Teenage Caveman with a very young Robert Vaughn (well before his Man from U.N.C.L.E. days and if you don't know who he is I will cry.

Well I dont know why but Ive always known the American spelling of doughnut to be donut.... A perfect example would be Dunkin' Dounts..oh now I want a doughnut..

To Nightshade: Well, I'm obviously an American, but I always thought "doughnut" was spelled, well, "doughnut". I remember visiting Boston and being bombarded with Dunkin' Donut shops. I just didn't notice or think about it's spelling very much before.

To mtpspur: Yes, I think "doughnut" is the more logical spelling since doughnuts are made from dough and not "do". I've heard of Robert Vaughn, but I've never seen any of his movies. I hope I didn't make you cry. Anyways, I can't decide which episode is my favorite, all the ones I've seen are all so good! >.< I love how some of the movies they riff have young actors who became fairly popular. When I was watching Eegah with a friend of mine at her house her mother said, "Hey, It's Jaws!" By the way, I live to the southwest of you.

hmmmm ... what also makes me wonder, is not only the spelling, as you mentioned, but the actual NUMBER OF 'donut' shops that you passed on the way to your home. Do you realize? There are more 'donut' shops out there than you can shake a stick at, lol!

Do I feel like a 'donut'? Uh... do I look like one?? (joke there, lol!)

Oh, I know! That's why I mentioned that I passed by three "donut" shops. Again, that's nothing compared to Boston. If someone told me that Boston was the "donut" capital of the world, I wouldn't be surprised.

Yes, yes, that was a funny joke. I've thought about that, too, when people say, "I feel like some coffee" or some sentence related to that. I think, "Really? That's a bit odd. That's not a normal human feeling, you know. What does it feel like to feel like coffee?"

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was TVs answer to james Bond in the 60s--had a great 1st season, black and white then drifted into 'camp' humor thanks to the Batman TV series and barely got on track at the nd (105 eps I think) but the damage was done. My remark was really a reflection of my age. But thanks for noticing. And yes Fairborn is home where the Air Force dropped me off.

I always considered "donut" just to be slang. Sort of like how stores use "kool".
Vivaldi always cheers me up as well! *is a huge four seasons fan* Classical music and baked goods makes for a wonderful life by the way!

Yeah, I guess. It still bugs me though to see "donut" since I'm such a spelling/grammar freak. And yes, Vivaldi's music always cheers me up! Hooray for us Vivaldi fans!
