The Ugly Duckling

Rating: 5 votes, 5.00 average.

The Ugly Duckling was a fairy tale that made me the saddest I ever felt as a child, though it did have a happy ending. But the way that the other animals treated 'the ugly duckling' left my heart aching and empty that a living creature could be so badly mistreated.
I led a sheltered life, je suppose, so this may be why the story deeply touched me.

Anyhow, don't ask me why I am blogging this. But today, as I walked my dog, I decided to blog about this Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale.

Wikipedia has a blurb on this story, in case you are interested: Info On UGLY DUCKLING Tale

I am glad that the 'ugly duckling' found his way back to the creatures that he originated from,
maybe there is more to this little children's tale than what is obvious ....

I'll leave you with that.

Love Always

you know, when you're young, being called "ugly" is so hurtful. But, I think I would rather be an ugly duckling who grows up into a beautiful swan than a cute kid, who grows up to look like an ugly smudge face. I actually grew up with several people who had that fate. The best thing ever is being at peace with who you are.

Injustice is always so hurtful. That story always gave me this feeling like the more unfairly one was treated the more successful (in whatever way) one must strive to become. It’s one reason that I’m so determined to have the things in my life just so.

Is that a black swan in the photo? The black swan is the symbol of the state I live in!! It's on our flag (our state flag - not the nations flag). Anyhow, the ugly duckling is such a sweet story. Well the ending is beautiful anyways

Kiz, your entries always touch me or make me cry - the pictures usually say it all. The Ugly Duckling - well, it speaks volumes, doesn't it? I don't think that story is so much about physical beauty as it is the alienation people feel because they are different from others - whatever that difference may be. Ironic, but when I post the chapter about Phoenix I think you'll find an ugly duckling in her as well. Unfortunately there is no planet where "different" people hail from or can return to - even in my story Noctura is a utopian society that has white dwarfed. Ugly Ducklings usually have unhappy endings because in truth, there is nowhere for them to go.

Nightie and Sprinks -- that is a black swan, I think -- it is a picture from a Google Search on 'the ugly duckling' -- both pics were obtained that way.
