Woodticks Dog Fights & Flowers :-)

What a pain in the butt woodticks are. Some people are afraid of them -- I'm not, but I really hate removing them from myself. Eww! I hate how they squirm when you try to get a grip on them ...

Removing ticks from Pepper, however, is not so bad. Only the head pokes into a canine's flesh, so you have the body to grip. The 'scary' part, though, is to get the head ... all of it. We've had a good track record thus far, so may it continue. Pepper is very obliging for tick examinations, too. So thats ok. I find ticks on her after every walk; some are already 'embedded', but others are loose and easy to dismiss. Woodtick 'season' doesn't last that long, but long enough (maybe six to eight more weeks). Well, enough of the tick topic ...

The weather here has been very good lately. The winds are Moderate to Low, and the temperatures are my favorite; nothing higher than the mid-teens (Celcius) during the day (that's in the range of 59 F). At night the lows have been above four but lower than ten (5 C = 41 F). Not bad!

Walks with Pepper are great. Except that on Tuesday past, we met up with a rather carefree girl who had an overweight black cocker spaniel on a leash. A long leash. It had a lot of gobby saliva dripping from it's mouth, too. Ewww. And sure enough, there was a confrontation. This one got out of hand, too. That spaniel was making gnashing noises, growls, and attempted to bite Pepper on the back of the neck. I broke it up -- the girl glowered at me and made no attempt to hold back her dog; very weird.

So that was not cool. At all. When Pepper went to her Groomer's (Wednesday), I told them to check out the back of the neck when trimming to see what they could find. I didn't find any 'damage', but you can never be sure. If there had been something, that girl would have heard from me. Another dog-walker and I had a little chat about that mutt, and my confrontation was not the first of its kind on The Path. Yeah, this girl should keep a shorter leash, a muzzle, and a few other safeguards for the other dogs walking that trail. Sheesh!

Excuse me while I roar --

** ROARS **

Okay, I feel better.

Well, it is supposed to start raining tonight, and carry on into tomorrow, so hope that lots gets done here. Our grass is getting very long -- so with the ticks out, this is not favorable for Pepper. C'mon hubby -- shake that booty! (he and I have an agreement -- I do the inside 'stuff' and he does the outside 'stuff'. Whatever works, right?)

As for the planting of the flowers -- hope we can do this before the rain. The rite of flower planting is a joint effort (as I had previously mentioned that the outside stuff is hubby's realm). But remember, he is the one with the Green Thumb, my mentor. At any rate, can't wait ... YAY!

I'm happy to say it's been rare that we find any ticks on our dog.
Usually my husband is the one that does the gardening but this year and last year I got to plant the flowers. I finally bought some today. I also hung up a bird feeder and I enjoy watching the birds eat.
Lovely garden by the way. Kudos to your husband - very nicely done.

Lovely flowers, Kiz! I want to share with you what we do to help prevent ticks at our house. This works for my animals, children, and my husband who often has to work in very ticky areas. We get sulfur tablets at the health food store and take lots of them! Also, my in-laws have sulfur in their water and we drink as much as we can and sometimes bring some home. When you take a lot of sulfur it makes your sweat smell of sulfur, but not so much that people can smell it, just enough that ticks don’t want to bite. Mason is so very allergic to ticks. He gets giant whelps that will stick way out from his body and be as big around as.. . Well nothing comes to mind but when I but my index fingers and thumbs together to make a circle it’s the right size. For the animals we put it in their water bowl and it works really well.

I hope that girl does something about her dog - that is rather irresponsible! I'm happy to hear that Pepper was okay though . I hope you all remain tick-free and happy!! And I look forward to more news about your garden, the flowers are so pretty!

I am Kizzo, hear me roar, you have three seconds, to get to the door -- **blues harmonica solo courtesy of our own B-mental** Lets give it up for B! Woot! Okay, carry on with what you were doing ... Oh, and Pete, that girl is less approachable than her dog, bear this in mind! When I see that combo again, Peps and I will cut through the wheatfields and let them have The Path. I wondered if that gobby stuff was saliva or WORSE! [there ARE rabid skunks 'round here] ...
