Updates & a Short Sermon

Just various happenings the past few days.

My mother is still with us but Ruth's friend Catherine from work has been in West Virginia the past few days with her mother who is 87.

The life support was removed at 4:40 pm today.

Ruth is at work but I expect the final news when she gets home. This will devastate Catherine. She has never adjusted to the loss of her husband even after seven years which Ruth constantly mentions. I keep thinking Ruth is trying to tell me she'll have a life after I depart the stage. Always the pride holding hands with the drama queen.

To add to her troubles after her husband died she quit opening mail addressed to him and tossed it in a corner somewhere in the house. Her family still lives with her but it's a Mama's Family (TV series) athmosphere with C. playing the much put upon mother to the hilt. Turns out the house payments ceased awhile back and there was a question as to who really owned it. So the family is being evicted. Moving two doors down. It's a part of Dayton where it's block houses.

Ruth just now called. 8:20 pm. Catherine's mother is in Heaven now. She is resting in peace indeed. I have sincere doubts as to the final resting place of my own mother. I have my own doubts too about myself--none about Ruth. A time to live and a time to die so says Ecclesiastes chapter 2 I believe.

My second daughter-in-law Loretta, James second wife is going to have a C-section on the 2nd of June. There has been a tumor on the child's back weighing a pound. She herself is 4 pounds last we knew. When James broke the news he started with "No grand-daughter for your birthday I'm afraid." and I jumped to the wrong conclusion until I realized he wasn't crying as Ruth and I suffered a loss between Dan and Sandy. Payback for all the blog sentences portending doom when it's about something else. Her name will be Alexandra Lucille but I intend to call her Al in homage to Paul Simon.

Stephen the idiot nephew will be plaguing me soon with whiny phone calls when he's loose from prison on the 29th. His marriage is still over. I suspect he'll be living with my sister forever now. Little sympathy here. He was totally at fault and got what was coming. Rebuilding him is a chore and he'll find I'm not as chirpy cheery as in former times. I intend to nip the whining in the bud.

Finally something a little different. Was reading Spurgeon yesterday and the subject that the Lord uses all sorts of ways and means to win the souls of people to himself. In the midst of the sermon was this small portion I will quote verbatim:

Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit Volume 62, #3498--"God's Gentle Power" preached on September 10th, 1871 and published February 10, 1916, p 65.

"I remember to have heard the story of a man, a blasphemer, profane, an atheist, who was converted singularly by a sinful action of his. He had written on a piece of paper, "God is nowhere," and bade his child read it, for he would make his child an atheist too. And the child spelt it, "God is n-o-w
h-e-r-e--God is now here." It was a truth, instead of a lie, and the arrow pierced the man's own heart."

And they say a child shall lead you or out of the mouths of babes. God is still good.

A sad entry Rich. I hope you can get some good news. It seems to be all negative lately for you. Hang in there. My sympathies. I'm praying for your mom.

What will they be doing for the baby when she is born? I love you calling her Al- it something my dad would do.

To Motherhubbard. I know the baby will be in a San Bernadino CA hospital which is the nearest facility to the Army base my son is at in Death Valley. Will be unable to go see her--the finances just aren't there. We really don't know what shape she'll be in. All the tests have good/bad implications and I'm at the age now where I live in hope and prefer to let the panic set in when I receive the facts. I take comfort in a merciful God during these times. To Virgil: It may seem sad and negative but compared to some years this has been a walk in the park. But I appreciate your friendship and concerns. Antiquarian: Always a pleasure to see a note from you. I see you and Meg on the forum and I smile and steal a verse from the Bible and twist it thusly: Can anything good thing come out of Ohio?? Why yes they can!!

I hope that all goes well with baby Al, it is sad about that tumor. You are in my thoughts about all that is going on around you -- you much remind me of a little raft at sea sometimes. You are tossed and turned and taken in directions as only the sea can determine -- and yet you always come out wiser and still smiling. May you always have this attitude! And lastly, I loved the Spurgeon that you quoted. Beautiful words. Take care, Kizzo
