Ironman Rocks!

Rate this Entry
I posted this in the movie review thread. But I wanted to add this to my blog.

Now you sophisticated movie goers aren't going to care about this one, but my wife and I went out to see Ironman!! When I was a teenager my favorite comic book hero was Ironman. Not sure why. He wasn't as well known as Batman or Spiderman or a whole host of other super heros. But if you read Wikipedia's entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Man) he's an engineer, an idustrialists, an anti-communist. Who-hoo. What's not to like. I'm not sure now if I was attracted to him or I tried to become him but somewhere a convergence occured. So many of his qualities I share, except of course I'm not a super hero.

As to the movie. Very good. Robet Downy Jr. plays a great Tony Stark (Ironman). To be honest I imagined Tony Stark to be more mature than the way Downy plays him and he portrays a wild, more rambuctious Tony Stark than I remember, but the role seems made for Downy. Jeff Bridges plays a great Obediah Stane, the villain. Terrance Howard is Tony Stark's military sidekick. And Gywnith Paltow plays an unbelievable Miss Pepper Pots, Tony Stark's assistant and almost love interest. Really an enjoyable movie, especially if you like watching Tony Stark create the suit of iron (actually "gold titanium alloy", which does not exist ) that makes him capable of incredible strength and flight. Action is good, but not outrageous or over done. Weapons are cool. Dynamics between Downy and Paltrow is outstanding. The pacing is fast, like a comic book pace, and it slows down as Stark invents the technology.

Sorry if I'm a barbarian in this cosmopolitan thread of movie reviews, but I really loved this one. 9/10.

OK. I saw this 2 weeks ago, I think. I gave my very short review and rating. As I stated then, I am not a big fan of Marvel. I never have been. I always preferred DC. But I did enjoy this movie. I really did like watching him build his suit. I enjoyed Downey very much, but I don't ever recall seeing him in a film where I didn't like his performance. I know there is this rumored Oscar talk for him to get a nomination for this role. So, we'll see. You DID stay until the VERY end AFTER the credits, correct? I knew about it, but my brother didn't (he and I went to see it together). So, that was a nice surprise for him. Is it safe to assume that you will be seeing "The Incredible Hulk" then? After all, somebody will be making an appearance. Of course, next year is the Thor movie and I think Captain America will be out in 2010. Since I have seen the first film leading up to the Avengers, I have to see them ALL now! Anyway, my brother was saying something yesterday about wondering why they are releasing The Hulk movie so soon after Iron Man. I was thinking the same thing. I think it would've been good to release it more towards the end of summer just when movies are dying off. Then it could have the time of its release practically all to itself. I haven't decided yet how I feel about Edward Norton as Banner, though. The movie will be the deciding factor with that, of course. Anyway, you wanted to talk about Iron Man and I have gone off on the others. Anyway, glad to hear that the movie of your favorite wasn't a disappointment for you!

Oh no. I didn't stay for after the credits. My wife was rushing me. What did I miss?

Uh-oh! So, since you didn't stay until the very end, I think everything that I was going on about may have just sounded like I was truly rambling, huh?! Well, I don't know if I should give anything away for anyone who hasn't seen it (though I think I already did - at least to anyone that didn't realize that all of these movies are connected to each other). I kind of don't know what to do now. Where are you, mtpspur? I know you saw this! Do you think we should just come out and say what is at the end? I don't want to spoil it for people, but I am afraid I did! So should I just tell a little more?

I haven't seen this yet, and hadn't really planned on going -- but a certain hubby may twist my rubber arm. So I'll have to let you know, thanks for your review on it!

Thanks for the reccommendation, Virgil. I love that you and Mtpspr and I are all comic junkies. Comics were the way that stories of great imagination were told. Men like us can appreciate the story and the artistry. I can't wait to see the movie. B

Many people seem to like this movie, but I just don't think I can make myself watch it lol..I have a thing for movies of super heros, I didn't watch Spiderman (maybe just the first movie, and I was bored to death then), didn't watch Batman's series, though it had George Clooney at some point and he's one of fav. actors. I just don't know, there's something about them that I just don't like. But I'm glad you enjoyed it Virgil

I have heard over and over how good this is. I may have to sneak off some afternoon soon before all of the schools are out. The Hulk looks really good from the previews.

Lady W can you PM me what I missed at the end. Glad you liked it. Yeah B-M I loved comic books as a kid too. Yes they do have great story lines, though of course fantastic. You know if you think about it, The Illiad and the Odyssey and especially Beowulf are sort of comic book stories too. I have no idea what happened to my old comic books. I hope they're at my mother's house. Or they're buried in my basement somewhere. I guess Rich must be away. I know he would definetely comment on this. Nossa, Kizzo, Anti, Sweets, probably not your type of movie. I understand. Most action movies are not my type either. But an Ironman action movie - who hoo!! Amp, go see it, it's fun. Now let me also wish on this Memorial Day in the US the best to our men and women in our military. You are the true, real life Ironmen.

To Lady W: Suggest Pm Virgil --you may the honor. Agree shouldn't ruin it for the ones who haven't seen it. (For the record I have severe doubts about really seeing the event the ending refers to happening. DC has a Justice League of America planned that being worked on. To Virgil: hands down favorite Iron man villain the Mandarin and I'm sure you caught the sly reference to him in this film. Marvel is reprinting the early stories in hardcover editions--up to four now completing the original Tales of Suspense run prior to his first issue of his own title from 1968.

PM has been written and sent! I don't know why (and I do feel bad about saying this considering what I prefer), but I have more doubts over The Justice League movie than the other one. I am just feeling more positive with that one.

I took the boys to see the transformers and it was very inappropriate for boys their age and moms my age. They had a scene where they said masturbation about 100 times and then there was some peeing on people and lots of skin. I’m a little leery of taking them to see movies that seem like they should be for boys now. Is this one that is save for the kids?

Mom-H, except for quick scene where Tony Stark is in bed with a lady (and they show nothing; I think they're clothed) there is nothing like that in this movie. I think it was PG. Thanks Lady W.

When I hear Ironman, I think of Ozzy Osborne - lol. Glad you liked it and glad Robert D Jr. is back in the game!

I enjoyed this movie a lot as well. I consider it the best of the Marvel movies because it told the character's story without bogging down too much. I kept waiting for the Black Sabbath to kick in, there were several great opportunities to hit it during the film, but alas they saved it to the end.
I was wondering, and maybe Lady W can enlighten me, why they made a remake of the Hulk so soon after that deplorable effort by Ang Lee. If it's part of a build up to an eventual Avengers movie, I'm in.
    Great review, V.

Thanks Pablo. It really was a lot of fun, and yes they saved the theme song for the end. I wonder why?
