Insights from a person of questionable sanity

Villanelle.

Rate this Entry
A rather shameful attempt at a villanelle but believe me its not easy at all! I was listenting to 'Asleep' by The Smiths as I wrote this yesterday evening.

Where have all the years gone, gone by?

Where have all those years gone, gone by?

Afraid of what is next, will I be

flown high, recycled in the sky.

I have come so far, from being shy

playing with dolls to drinking tea.

Where have all those years gone, gone by?

Sing me to sleep, Sing me to sleep

Won't you sing a last one for me?

Flown high, recycled in the sky.

We had moments, low and some high.

Here ends our long journey.

Where have all those years gone, gone by?

I'll die counting not years but sheep.

I will take with me your heart's key.

Flown high, recycled in the sky.

Hold my wrinkly hand as I lie

here, dry your eyes, let me free.

Where have all those years gone, gone by?

Flown high, recycled in the sky.

Opti, I enjoyed your villanelle very much. This form of poetry is probably one of the most difficult to 'get into the mood to write' (you know?!), I have got to make an attempt (lol). The pic that followed your villanelle was great, too, made for a very aesthetic moment here in the Prairies. Thanks!

Lol. It really is very difficult! Like haiku's. I struggle with them both so much, i do such rubbish ones. anyone can get the right number of syllables in a line but to qualify it for a zen-like haiku its so difficult! i think the picture from google was more effective than my bloody villanelle!

Happy writing. please do share some of your stuff with me. I won't borrow. I might steal though-be a 'mature poet'.

Opti, I do promise here and now to post some of my ramblings (poem, haiku, etc.), I have let the muses sit and rot in my life for a spell, but it is all coming back, kind of like spring finally arriving here in my world. When I get the courage, I shall.
