Adoption Update

Rate this Entry
It's been a while since I have posted anything about my adoption journey so now I have some updates to share.

My worst fear has become reality. Vietnam adoptions are closing down September 1. It was hoped that the unilateral agreement between the 2 countries would be resolved and everything would be fine but this is not the case. What this means is that Vietnam will stop accepting dossiers on July1(while my husband and I are still working on our paperwork, we will not be able to meet this deadline). Families that are matched with a child before September 1 will be able to complete their adoptions. For families that are not matched before September 1 their files will be closed ( any money that has been spent to this point is lost - non refundable). This is a big chunk of money. Thank god I will not lose anything at this point.
Unfortunately, its the children that suffer. They will have to continue living in the orphanage rather than with loving, permanent families.

While we are disappointed, ( I had a feeling this would happen), we are not giving up. We have another country in mind that has had nothing but positive feedback and within a little over a year we would have our child home with us.

This is only a minor setback. I have to remain positive and in my heart of hearts, I know my dream will become a reality one day.

That sure stinks, what I have seen and read is that adoption is becoming more difficult around the globe. I agree that it is the children that suffer. The biggest problem with adoption is that it is often not properly regulated and controlled, which can mean that it actually hurts the children. It's very difficult thing, but adoption is something I think is very important. If done properly it is a win/win situation.

I am sorry about the disappointment (bureaucracy!) but I am glad to see that you have another solution. Hopefully this will work.

Hang in there and keep plodding along. That special child is out there and in God's timing will be just the child meant for you.

Very sorry to hear about your disappointment, PB. Hope your next attempt proves more fruitful.

Out of curiousity, why aren't you considering adopting a child from the USA?

My coworker adopted a child from Russia. Is that where you're thinking of going? Just being nosy. You don't have to answer. I was at some church thing for engaged couples a few years ago, and one of the couples who was leading it was in the process of adopting, and they too were adopting a child overseas. They mentioned trying to adopt someone from the US, but they were horrified with the system we have here, and decided it would be better to go abroad I guess. BTW: what happened to the embarrassing entry?

I was wondering where you were at in the adoption process, glad you posted. I was sorry to read of the disappointment, but I really liked your closing two lines -- and you keep holding that thought. Its not over yet -- one day you will be united with the child of your dreams!

I am sorry for what happened but think this might be the way to discover the child whose mother God wants you to be
