Good News/Bad News/News In General

Rate this Entry
Well, its been a while since my last blog entry. My oldest nephew and his family (wife and daughter) will be extending their stay in Santiago Chile. My nephew was invited to play in the Chilean Symphony Orchestra for 2 months and they recently asked him to stay on for at least another year. At first he declined but then he reconsidered. After contacting his school in Michigan he was told they would not hold his spot in the doctorate program if he stayed in Chile so rather than losing his spot he will stay in Chile thru the summer and come home in the fall to begin his doctorate. He plays the trumpet and I must say he is very good. Am I a proud aunt or what ?
That was the good news so to speak.

My bad news is my other nephew. He was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. This runs in my family so I am not too surprised. I was diagnosed last year and so was my brother. Mine is under control with medication, diet and excercise. My nephew right now is having a problem stabilizing his blood sugar levels. His blood sugar levels are anywhere from 200 - 400. This is not good. A person without diabetes, their normal range is 70 - 100 fasting. I wish there was something I can do but there isn't much I can do except be there for him and support him thru this difficult time. It's really up to him to turn things around.

My news in general is that on Sunday it's my birthday. I can't wait to see what my husband has planned for the weekend.

In 3 weeks, we are going to see Camelot at Lincoln center. I can't wait. The only person I recognize thats going to be be in the cast is Christopher Lloyd from Taxi and Back to the Future. It should be fun.

Hoping you have agreat birthday. Sorry about your nephew (and yourself). Diabetes runs in both me and the long suffering one's family but I suspect the heart or kidney will get me first.

That is too bad that the school will not hold your nephew's spot in the doctorate program, when he has such a wonderful opportunity to stay in Chile. Such difficult choices, but I guess he worked it out so that he has the best of both. You have every right to be proud (I have a secret crush on Harry James, so yeah, good trumpet playing is nothing to sneeze at!) I was sorry to read about the other nephew, hope that things work out for him. Enjoy Camelot, and be sure to have a very relaxing and enjoyable birthday!

Wonderful news about your nephew- that's an amazing opportunity, as well as amazing that he is getting his doctorate.

About your other nephew, I can only say, be thankful that it isn't fatal. It's terrble to have to deal with, and I can sympathize fully.

Happy Early Birthday! And I hope it's an awesome show XD

Hope you have a great birthday. It must be a true honor to have been asked to stay in Chile to play. I'm sorry to hear that your other nephew has diabetes. I know that can't be a pleasant thing to deal with, as I've seen the women in my family struggle with it for years. Most of them keep it under wraps with a good diet, but it is still really hard on them. Take Care, Meg
