Earth Day 2008

Rate this Entry
I was recently....occupied... for being psycho (or was it psychic?) in a psych ward of a hospital. A major event happened on that day, or at least major to B-Mental. You see, Pete (B-Mental, Sgt. Rock), a geologist, entered into the delayed entry program for the US Army, on a particular day back in 1987. I'm checking my military records to verify. Hmm, no record of my delayed entry date on my DD214. Oh well, I do believe that the date I signed my entry papers into the United States Army was April 23, 1987. I didn't actually enter into the military until Sept. 15, 1987.

Now for those of you not savvy with the ways of the military, and MTPSPUR can back me up on this. I signed up for three years service with my country, but the Army doesn't count your Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) as part of the contract. I go into the Army to pay for a college degree, and serve my country (Kind of a Christian thing to do) In the words of the immortal Ray Charles...(Who loved his Country more than self), but I was thinking I'd get out in September or August, and be able to go to school.

I also wanted to go to Europe, especially Germany. You see, my Uncle is from Austria, and he is married to my Mother's sister, Suzie! I took lessons in German from a young age, and also took four years in High School. I went to Germany just prior to signing. We spent one week immersed with a family, and one week travelling the Rhine River region and Bavaria. I was, and still am, truly in love with the country. Anyways, my contract stated I would be assigned to report to Frankfurt, West Germany. I had done my research and knew that the US Sector of West Germany was in the South. I had always dreamed of skiing. Unfortunately, I was assigned to a group situated in the northern plains of Germany near between Bremen and Bremerhaven (very near the North Sea, and far from the mountains of my dreams).

I ended up having to write a letter to Congress stating my intention to enroll in college. I finally got a response in late June. I was going to be released 90 days early, but I needed to use all of my remaining vacation days as part of the deal, in order to get out in time for college. This means, that I arrived home from the Active Army on Aug. 23, 1990. My sister Lisa's birthday, and also only 8 days prior to STOP/LOSS for the Operation: Desert Shield/Desert Storm. My rank was Specialist (E-4), and I had enrolled into the Wisconsin Army National Guard. I enlisted for a five year stint. My date of release from the National Guard, April 22, 1995. Odd isn't it, that a guy named Pete (Greek for Rock) would leave his military servitude, and spend his first day of true freedom in 8 years on Earth Day 1995. Yep only 13 years ago. I enrolled in the service 21 years ago last week, and got out 13 years ago, last week. Sgt. Rock Out.

Ok gang, back to the grind I hope all is well, and I can't wait for a couple of days of work. My body just needs a good workout, and my medical bills are through the roof. Toodles, B

Thanks for the comments. The funny thing about being sent to the psychward? I was sleeping in my house, and 5 police officers woke me up. They were *****ing at me for not locking my door. I don't really fear anything, not even 5 police officers in my house. Yoiu see, my Mother (God bless her) called the police, because she thought I was going to kill myself. I WOULD NEVER KILL MYSELF!
