FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL

Well, its that time of the year here in Louisiana. Yep! You Guessed it...Festival Season. The season kicks off in April. Suzie and I went to the "Hot Sauce Festival" in New Iberia a couple of weeks ago to see one of my personal favorite Zydeco musicians, Geno Delafose! Geno was one of the artists nominated for the first ever "Cajun & Zydeco Grammy Awards" just this year. The last time I saw him was at Grant Street Dancehall, with Tom, Lynn, & Joe. It was in February when they were down for Jane's 2nd Birthday party. Here is a youtube.com link to listen to for this entry... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0UT9Qt13gk

I went out on Thursday night to meet with my bro Joe, and his wife and daughter. We went to Festival International Lafayette. The opening performer is a local favorite. A blues slide guitarist, session musician, and member of several awesome groups...Sonny Landreth. Sonny recently came out with an album with names like Eric Clapton and BB King bantered, at least thats what I heard. Here is a link to a local favorite, and national treasure...look at this list of musicians he's played with. http://www.sonnylandreth.com/sonnyframes.html

The second group to play on opening night for the Festival? Just a couple of African Americans... Blind, awesome singers though. A FOUR time (or is it 5?) Grammy Award Winning Group... 'The Blind Boys of Alabama'! Here is a link to their home site. They ARE awesome! http://www.blindboys.com/

NOTE: Dear Virgil, Sorry no literary references... Suck it up, I'll blog one in a day or so

Have fun at those festivals, Pete! I think that it would be grand to live in Lafayette, Louisiana -- lucky you! I was in New Orleans the autumn before that disaster. The people in Louisiana are awesome, they make you feel at home, they make you feel their music, they make the best food I've ever tasted. Yes, you are sooooooo lucky, Pete -- enjoy the Festivals and enjoy the music! Kizzo
