Reflections on the puddle of life

Give yourself

Rate this Entry
a pat on the back; you’re good at something, everyone is. Make a list, list everything you can do. Be surprised, the list is longer than you think.

Go back to your list, list the things you can’t do. Forgive yourself your limitations, your imperfections. They are what make you, you. Accept yourself, just as you are.

You don’t believe me. Go back to your list. Write the names of 5 perfect people. Give yourself 5 minutes. Is your list blank? Good.

Do you have 5 names? Ask yourself: are they really perfect, or do they just have qualities you wish you had yourself? Forgive yourself for not having these qualities. Forgive yourself for wishing that you did.

Trying to be someone else is a path that leads to misery and disappointment.

Forget the list, look outside your window. Do you see it? Outside there is beauty. Look around your room. Do you see it? It is here too. Look in the mirror.

Can’t you see it? Forgive yourself this too.

It is easy to see ugliness and imperfection. It is easy to look at the world, our lives, ourselves and see imperfection, ugliness and pain. But there is still beauty, wonder, love, joy. It is their very elusiveness which makes them precious, wonderful. Open your eyes: see.

We are our own best friend, and our own worst enemy.

Very nice Fifth. Of course a list of all my good qualities is just way to long.

May I say, blatantly, unashamedly, right here in the open and for everyone and anyone to see, that I am quite, quite, quite IN LOVE WITH YOU (platonically, of course!)!!

And now will you please give yourself a pat... on the rump, from me and I'm sure from all of us!

Let me take this one step forward:
Forget the list, look outside your window. Do you see it? Outside there is beauty. Look around your room. Do you see it? It is here too. Look in the mirror.
Both outside and in the mirror, not just beauty, but God. Outside and in the mirror. Do you see it?

Thanks Antiquarian, the advice is as much for me as anyone else, sometimes we all need reminding to give ourselves a break; Amen to you too Amp Virgil glad to see your list of good qualities is long, give yourself a pat on the back for that too . I'm not sure about God, I don't see God, to me God is pure belief and I cannot, hand on heart, say that I believe, but then I can see that, if you believe, then God is reflected all around you. Becca I'm glad this reached you - enjoy England, it is beautiful (it's where I live!). Prince may I say again, you are so nice

This is good, it's a good thing, 1/5. This is akin to the "gratitude list" -- when you're doing okay you make this list, then when the effluent hits turbocharger, referring to the list can live lift from the depths of despair. Another one from the same source, I often fall into when I see some hunk of a guy driving a Porsche with the hunk of a girl with him... I compare my insides to his outsides. Not a fair comparison.

Thanks for this blog entry. We do need to be reminded that we have our strengths along with our weaknesses. When I was very insecure as a teen, I used to have to tell myself that there will always be those who fly waaaaaay above the others, and those who fall short. And that I was somewhere in between, which is ok. You rock!
