[B]8:30 pm[/B] Sir Bartholomew's mom brought him in front of the clinic. Sir Bartholomew has a weekly appointment with the doctor because his dog Kim bit him at the forehead. His parents were afraid Bartholomew had rabies. Kim was also sent to the vet, and had her shots. Sir Bartholomew will have his shots too, although sustained. He didn't mind. He's more afraid of electric plugs and outlets than shots. His mother meanwhile is afraid of almost everything. As soon as their appointment's over she took haste for home. There were rumors that a mananangal roams around the city late every night. Mananangals are elusive types. And Sir Bartholomew would love to sprinkle salt on them just for fun. He never believes in monsters. He's more afraid of the person sitting next to him on the jeepney. Before they went to sleep Mother hung garlics on the doors and the windows and placed the bible on the coffee table.

[B]1:00 am[/B] A nasty stench woke the household. Brother was the first up, Mother followed him downstairs. Sir Bartholomew slept soundly inside his room. Kim, the dog, was in panic, never had her snout encountered such. They scouted the house, the smell was everywhere. Brother and Mother went out, expecting a dead rat but there wasn't any. Kim barked and ran up and down the stairs. Nothing. After 20 minutes the search proved a failure. Mother and Brother decided to call it a night. They stopped on the stairs when they heard something scratching upstairs. It was Kim, frantic and eager, scratching Sir Bartholomew's door. Mother's heart stopped and ran for the door. Brother followed her. The room expelled the most odious of smells. It was like a dead rat, rotten cheese and durian cellar. Mother covered her nose and Brother clicked on the lights. Sir Bartholomew was OK, sound asleep.

What was it? Kim asked.[I] Fart[/I]. Sir Bartholomew's [I]fart[/I], a side effect from the shots, said the Doctor. Kim collapsed on the floor from panic, her paws on her muzzle.
