Wake up, wake up.

Coming out of a deep sleep, I felt his hand on my hip, gently shaking me. I opened my eyes and turned toward him but I couldn't see him in the dark. Reaching out, I tried to touch him, wondering what he wanted, hoping. But there was nothing. Complete silence. Stillness. No one was there. I sat on the edge of the bed for awhile and though it was just past 4:30 a.m., decided to get up. Naturally, I ended up at the computer and there I read about my night visitor. He had certainly made his rounds this morning coming deep from within the earth....5.3-5.4 they say. Yes, my nice little dream turned out to be an earthquake. Being a California girl, I am quite sensitive to earthly shakes and tremors, not to mention having lived through a 9 pointer.

I never had the experience either, that doesn't really happen in France. But next year, when I'm over there....

That was a great beginning to a story. I live on the other coast, and I remember once being awakened by a small earthquake. I was just lying there, not really sleeping -- just in that space where I can dream around a thing I'm thinking. Anyway, it came like a gentle rumble, I thought my heart might be doing something weird. Then it stopped. But little bit later, on the news, sure enough , a small earthquake had rattled through the Adirondacks.

I didn't think the mid west got earth quakes. But I saw it on the news this morning. We've had mild quakes in NYC. They're a little shocking. I can imagine a big one. Amp you'll have to tell us about that 9 point one some day.

And reading this again, I failed to tell you guys that I now live about an hour southeast of Chicago in northwest Indiana. The New Madrid fault line is down in southern Illinois, Indiana and parts of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas. It is said that a severe earthquake happens in that area about every 500 years, sometimes so intense that it can change the course of the Mississippi River.

Ampoule, you always write so suggestively; I love it! Thanks for sharing the experience. We had an earthquake in UK about a month ago which was miniscule compared to what you get over in the States, but interesting all the same.

Beautiful writing of an interesting experience... that would scare the hell out of me.

Woo, that would be very scary! I also thought that your opening was the making of a very intriguing bit of writing, Amp! And yeah, you need to tell us about that nine-pointer!
