I take my orders from Anza, so I must blog today.![]()
Let me take the opportunity to give an update on Mom. Urgh, there's been a glitch with with her recovery. Last Teusday she got a blood clot in her leg, was sent over to the hospital, and was in the emergency room all night. I was fianlly told to go home. She was sent upstairs to the floor at 10 am the next morning but was placed in the hall until a room got free. She finally got a room at 5 PM today. Hospital rooms are in short supply in NY. This is common. She was given blood thinners and was given a lung catscan to make sure it didn't travel into her lungs. She had a pain in her lung. She was fairly calm throughout this.
Unfortunately it got worse. The blood clot did traveled to her lung and she got a pulmonary embulism (sp?). Granted it was small. Now she has to be put on cumiden for six months. Cumiden is a pain in the ***. It's a blood thinner and she'll have to check her blood level every week through a blood test. Urrgh.
I blame the rehab place for this. She had been on helprin (sp?), which is a blood thinner and injected every day for people who are non-ambulatory. My mother told me they had not been giving it to her the last three or four days before the blood clot, and and they refused to give her her walker so she could walk around. They forced her to sit in a wheelchair all day and all weekend and the long sitting leads to bloodclots. I am furious. She had this incredible pain in her calf.
So now she has been in the hospital for seven days. They are trying to get her INR (some blood measurement of thinness) to a certain level. Once this reaches the 2-3 zone she can go back to rehab. She was supposed to get to go home on Wednesday, April 2nd, but now this has set her back. They better allow her to stay another week to make up for this. She needs it. She's been trying to do leg exercises in bed or a chair, but that's not the same thing as walking about and climbing stairs. People on cumiden have to be very careful not to cut themselves or bruise because the blood is so thin it will not clot well. My father was on it for a while. I wonder if my mother will be able to do any gardening this year. I'm worried she might bruise herself. She isn't careful about things like that.
Oh the twist and turns of life.![]()
