They're Gone!!!

Rate this Entry
Our tenants moved out of the apartment we rent out and I am sooo happy!!
When my husband and I first rented out the apartment it was to a single guy. Next thing we know his girlfriend moved in with him. He never had the decency to tell us or better yet ask us. She just moved in. My husband being the nice person that he is, never said anything. Overall they were fairly good tenants. Occassionaly they paid the rent on time (meaning the first of every month). For the most part it was always between the third and fifth day of the month. This would drive me crazy but my husband was lenient with them. The only good thing I can think of when they were living here was that they provided entertainment for me. I could be sitting in my living room watching tv and all of a sudden I would hear this noise. It started out as a moan until I realized what they were doing. They were doing the nasty!!!!!!! I tried to ignore the sound but I couldn't. She was loud if you know what I mean. When I would see them later on, I would say to myself, I know what you were doing!!! I couldn't find a way to tell them that I could hear them and I gather they had no idea that we could hear them doing it. So now that they are gone, I have to find new entertainment.
After they were gone my husband and I went down to the apartment to check things out. To me it was disgusting, to my husband it's not that bad. The guy did tell us that there is a drip in the bathroom from the tub. To me a drip is a drop here, a drop there. This was no drip, it was more like you left the faucet on somewhat with a steady stream of water coming out. This could explain our high water bill for abt the last year. I was fuming He could have had the decency to tell us. As I walked around the apartment it was apparent to me that they never cleaned. The windows were filthy along with the window sills. The dust over the doorways was atrocious!! There were even dust balls hanging from the ceiling and corners. Women, you know what I am talking abt right ? They did a lot of frying so you would not believe the amt of grease that had built up on the kitchen cabinets over the years. The grease alone under the range hood could gross you out. They never bothered to clean this as well. Doesn't even look like they really cleaned the bathroom often. The tiles in the bathroom are white and you could see all the dirt and grime build up very clearly. Not sure if they ever vacumed either. When I looked behind the bedroom door I saw a pile of dust just sitting in the corner. I can't imagine ever living like this. I proceeded to open up the pantry closet and guess what I found. Roughly 10 empty 1 liter soda bottles strewn on the floor along with an empty pizza box. Thank god I did not see any bugs in the closet. I spent about an hour today trying to get the grease off the kitchen cabinets. I was successful but it took a lot of scrubbing and a lot of grease lightning cleaner. After that I gave up for today. Does anyone know how to clean a stainless steel sink ? What can I use to clean it without having to replace the sink ? The stove needs to be replaced as well along with the ceiling fan. The grease managed to find its way up there as well. By the way, this was never cleaned either. We'll also have to replace the carpeting in both rooms. Now to be fair, some of this stuff would be replaced regardless but I was just in shock as to what I saw and how they took care of the place. For reasons of my own, I went around taking pictures of what the place looks like in case people think I am over-reacting (namely my husband). I will post these pictures hopefully tonight and the people here on litnet can tell me if I am over reacting. Thats it for now.

I don't think not caring about dust is a problem (some people just prefer spending their time doing something else than cleaning the home, and what's this about women understanding what you mean? Men can clean too ) but I do think that when you rent an apartment you should give it back the way you had it in the beginning, so I understand your anger. This is really a lack of respect on their part. There is a difference between letting dust form here and there (they could clean that before leaving) and letting horrible grease form everywhere on the wall. I would be very angry too at your place. Not to mention the bottles and pizza thing, that would never come to my mind to leave a place like that. I would be curious to see the pics, yes.

I have gotten to enjoy living in a house maintained by Little Miss Wonderful. She hates clutter and doesn't understand how some people will live. I was never that into cleaning, but, I enjoy the way my wife requires (or I would strongly enjoy) our home. I can't actually do much to help clean up, but it's easy enough for me to ask people not to leave things in the sink, instead, just putting them in the dishwasher -- it's no big deal, and I know she appreciates it.

People who rent just don't care about your stuff -- that's why they're renting. I even think sometimes, they figure you're making so much money off them, they just leave the water running sometimes... because they can.

You remind me a lot of my mate. I've heard people say mean things because she doesn't like things like coffee cups lying around and rings on the countertop. Sometimes it's OK to be in control of something. It all you can find wrong with a person is that she likes things clean and neat, maybe it's time to pick on somebody else; or -- say something nice!

I'll keep part of someone's security deposit if it's really gross, then I can pay the LMW big bucks per hour, if she wants, to bring it back to where she likes it. Then, it's always nice when you show it. Nobody MINDS a clean house -- slobs just don't notice. When you show the house/apartment, rent it to somebody who notices how clean it is.
