Ok, thought I should try and help with the record breaking. Nothing really to say however. So I'll just answer antiquarians 10 questions:

1)One book that changed your life: Impossible to answer, no single book has completely changed my way of thinking on any subject. However my combined reading over the years has gone some way to sculpt my opinions and general outlook on life.

2. One book that you’ve read more than once: Great Expectations by Dickens. It was the first adult book I ever read. Whilst it is not my favourite by him (that would be Hard Times, followed by Bleak House)

3. One book you’d want on a desert island: Hard Times. This is my favourite novel of all time. To me it has everything.

4. One book that made you laugh: Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut.
I only first read this last year in the bookclub on this site. I should have read it years earlier.

5. One book that made you cry: See 4. This one ran the gammit

6. One book that you wish you had written: None if I'd wrote it it wouldnt be worth reading.

7. One book that you wish had never been written: Ok, a lot of you who have been paying attention will be expecting to see the name Jane Austen here. But I'm gonna go off the board here and pick anything by Joyce. I tried it, but cant stand stream of conciousness.

8. One book you’re currently reading: The Golden Compass by Pullman. The brother's fiance has been at me to read it for a couple of years. They sent me the trilogy for my birthday, I am now reading (and thoroughly enjoying) it.

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read: Crime & punishment. Seems everytime I am about to read it something always comes up & it goes to the back of the pile again......

10. One book you recommend to almost everyone: Easy, Hard Times.

Great list Kilt. I had forgotten how funny Slaughterhouse Five was. And just the other day i was telling myself I have to read a Dickens novel that I haven't read yet, and I didn't know which one to choose. I'll make it Hard Times. I'm surprised you didn't include Walter Scott in your list.

    Yay, helping the cause.
I'm sorry to say that I've never read any of those. ><
I haven't done a lot of reading outside of Mythology, lately.

If I was a better reader THIS would be an almost perfect list. Alas we love our detective/adventure stories too much.

Yeah, Hard Times is definitely everything and all that you have said. Now I fully recommend Crime and Punishment, truly a classic and a helluva good read.
