States Part I

this is so going to have to be revealed in parts. I do have homework...
Okay... States. First of all, we had study sessions from 9-1 on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. I sorted flashcards on the first day-- for some reason there were Vocab and geography questions in the Myth box. xD I made a 42/50 on my Myth practice test. The next day, I also made a 42/50, and beat out our Myth leader, who recieved Best-in-Show at Regionals. I Monday, I also played football with the rest of the Latin kids. Tuesday I only made a 28/50 on my test (which is still really good). And I met Kara's boyfriend...Wednesday, we headed out. The stupid charter bus left at 7:20 in the morning. We ate at Shoney's for breakfast, then went to Wild Adventures. I finally rode the Boomerang. Twice! I got badly sunburned-- I actually got sun poisioning. I ended up riding the rest of the way with Caleb's (one of the 8th grade Latin kids) mother, for fear that I would blow chunks on the bus.
After we arrived, I was confined to my room, wrapped in wet towels. My outside temperature was hotter than my core temperature. For some reason that's not a good thing. I escaped eventually. Will (another 8th grader) let me use some of his minor burn cream. Then I got puppy-dog-eyed into putting some on Matt's sunburn. (Matt is Mrs. Allen's [my orchestra teacher] son. he's a really good cellist) Then I got guilt tripped into giving PJ a back massage. (PJ is an advanced student, and Matt's best friend.) Matt then used that as leverage to get me to give him a back massage. After I gave him a back massage, 1) he decided we were getting married, and 2) my friend Titus (level II) pissed and moaned until I gave him a back rub. Then Cameron sulked for the same result. There is decidedly too much goodness in my heart. Then, (as this all took place in the hallway) I lay down in the corner feeling utterly miserable. Titus, being the only one out there with any form of gratitude, brought me a pillow from his room, and Matt , being close enough friends with me to bypass the courtesy, used me as one. Then the chaperones found me, their little lost sheep, and sent me to bed early, missing fellowship. The next day, we congregated for breakfast, and I had the best omelette I've ever eaten. Florida High, being a day early, had a day for studying; everyone else, not having sun poisioning studied by the pool; I, glowing red was confined to the lobby. Then everybody went for a walk across the river for lunch. Except me... because there was sunshine. So I stayed in the Lobby, reading an 800 page book, eating ramen that was made via the coffeepot, and greeting schools as they entered, all the while looking for Maclay. MY friend (and also the guy I have a crush on) attends Maclay. His name is David (ERIKWITHAK, down boy!) I met David at our second Certamen workshop in Jacksonville. I had taken special notice of him on the ride there, but was entirely too shy to say anything. Then the bus started leaking (I don't know how that works eother) and I offered him the seat beside me, since his side of the bus was the only one having issues. We clicked, instantly, and ended up swapping stories. I discovered that he went to school with two of my cousins, and dated Keaton. We both took Culinary, Latin (duh!), and shared the same tastes in music. He was a member of the Maclay Crew team-- a rower. I don't know what I like so much about him. He's highly intelligent, has fairly long dark brown hair. His eyes are downturned at the corners, marking his face with a hint of sadness that his smile never shows. I never got to see Maclay arrive, because I had to get ready for the Spirit Competition.
Preparations were a flurry of activity. We were learning chants, painting people gold and purple (Latin Club colors), and affixing bedsheets-fashioned-into-togas to people. I dressed as Pallas Athena. I was the keeper of our legionairre helmet this year. I wore it, a red toga, a gold medallion, purple and gold mardi gras beads as bracelets, and carried a foam sword of my own property. Ther was war paint stripes on either side of my cheeks. One was purple with gold inside; the other, the inverse. When we got down there we chanted, cheered, SCREAMED... but only got third, because we were in the back. We won a Dora the Explorer Talking Backpack. After that Matt B. (not that I gave a massage) and I had to go to Nationals Certamen Team Tryouts....
I will leave off ther for now...![]()
