Ten questions :D

Rate this Entry
I've been really interested by everyone's answers to Antiquarian's questions so I decided to jump on the bandwagon and see what people would say to my choices.

Seriously, the Bible would answer all of the questions except 6,7, and 9, so I'll just use fiction.

1. One book that changed your life: Out of many many, Dorothy L. Sayers Gaudy Night. I never dreamed that one book could have so much pathos, mystery, drama, classical literary references, and sensible romance in it! Though other books have changed my life too, Gaudy Night actually got me interested in reading books critically instead of merely for pleasure.

2. One book that you’ve read more than once: Any of my favorites. Probably, I'd go with The Complete Illustrated Strand Sherlock Holmes simply because Holmes is so much fun.

3. One book you’d want on a desert island: The Lord of the Rings trilogy. As I'm sure you know, LOTR is my favorite book period! I mean, what's not to like? And please don't say that Tolkien is too descriptive. The man's a genius! Not just for LOTR but for the Silmarillion, The Hobbit and the History of Middle-earth series.

4. One book that made you laugh: Pride and Prejudice. Lady Catherine de Bourgh is very much so a fun character.

5. One book that made you cry: Little Women. I'm not a very emotional person by nature, but Beth's dying scene did it.

6. One book that you wish you had written: None. I'm not smart enough for that, and furthermore, I want to write my own book.

7. One book that you wish had never been written: Anything by Darwin. Evolution theory is a gooey slodge of a mess that infiltrates EVERYTHING.

8. One book you’re currently reading: Tolstoy's War and Peace, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit, though it's going rather slowly.

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read: Lemmesee, what's the next book I want to read? I think...I might try Dante's Divine Comedy again.

10. One book you recommend to almost everyone: CRIME AND PUNISHMENT! Something in it for everyone! Nuff said!

I came close to going the spiritual route and compromised by using Matthew Henry. Thanks for the having the courage to give THE Book the credit it should always have.

I have to read Crime and Punishment. War and Pace is great, but too long. Anna Karinina (sp?) is even better.

Thanks for commenting! Antiquarian, Sherlock Holmes is brilliant as well as his consorts. Rich, to God be the glory! Virgil, you gotta read Crime and Punishment. It is point blank amazing. Anna Karenina I didn't like so much, and yes, War and Peace is LONG.

I would think you'd answer LOTR for all except #7.

Don't tell anyone, but I really have had a special place in my heart for the Lord of the Rings, since I was a child... long before the movies came out...
Great entry... oh I love the stories in the Silmarillion, it is probably my favourite work of Tolkien... Yeah Crime and Punishment is amazing!! anf War and Peace is good, just almost too vast and epic, it is quite the read... I would like to go back to it someday as I read it when I was 14... long long time ago... great list
