Kitsune

I believe I shall have to start this off with a simple question: do you believe in faeries? I ask this because (make no judgements) I do.
Today, I was shooting my bow and arrow, and (genius, I am) misfired. The arrow went into the woods behind our fenced-in property, so I trudged back there to get the arrow. I found it-- eventually-- and as I was going back to my makeshift range, caught a fleeting memory from last winter.
I hadn't come that way for a while, and the small clearing in the woods caught my eye. There, a few months ago, my trembling sister dragged me to a fox corpse torn limb from limb. Enter Kitsune.
A Kitsune is a creature from Japanese Lore. The are shape-shifters by talent, but their original form is that of a fox. This Kitsune is one I've seen before-- a grey hawk of alien beauty and of no Floridian species; a large black dog, easily a stray, but too large for any known to man, and with crystal blue eyes that no Newfoundland has. At some point Kitsune became more than just her species, but her name.
I went back there, armed with a scythe-like limb cutter. I found her remains immediately.
Last time I went, it was twilight, and I was afraid. This time I wasn't. I gathered the bones and arranged them against a stump. Unafraid, and unashamed to touch her. I raked the clearing, and put her remains in a pile, with her skull on top, and then strew the clearing with dogwood leaves, and put blue stones around her.
Call me crazy-- most people do-- but it is what I believe.

Also, I survived four straight hours of Latin. Mythology and Certamen, and practicing my speech, from nine in the morning to one in the afternoon. I was supposed to be kidnapped by my Uncle Danny at 11:00 to take me horseback riding, but that never happened. Needless to say, I was very dissappointed.
And Mr. B has boxes of flashcards, so I got out a Mythology box, and what was laced with the Myth but Geography questions, Empire questions, and Vocabulary?! SO I sorted out 3/5 of the box-- easily 800 or more flashcards in 1 1/2 hours, asking myself the Myth questions, while Mr. B asked me questions from another Myth box. The rest of the time we Certamen-ed and I took a practice test.
And I scored a 42/50 on my Mythology test. The highest I've ever done is 36! I only did one less than the Regionals Best in Show winner, Emma Jonas, who happens to be our Mythology leader. I was three points shy from best in show, and made first place!! And Emma said I get to be Myth Leader when she graduates after next year!!!!
YAY!
