Chicago Mini Vacation

Rate this Entry
I'll be making a trip to Chicago in September for a family affair. Besides the chicago cubs ( yuk!, I am a yankee fan) what are some of the main attractions to see in Chicago ? Is there anyone on litnet that lives in Chicago? I think the affiar is in Downers Grove. Don't feel like checking my other email on my desktop right now.
I'll probably have 3 - 4 days to spend sightseeing before the affair.

You could do everything that Farris Buhler did on his day off! Wasn’t that in Chicago?

Now, that's a cool idea, MH. I live less than an hour from downtown Chicago. I love the city. There are so many things to do....the Field Museum and Museum of Science and Industry, the Adler planetarium, the Shedd aquarium....but those types of things are in most big cities. There are some very good walking tours, even a chocolate tour, where you are given guided tours of the architecture, pre fire, post fire. Personally, I like to get up close and personal. Millenium Park is wonderful, walking down Michigan Avenue, Water Tower Place, the lake shore. There are wonderful little restaurants tucked everywhere. If you are an E.R. fan, try the Rosebud Cafe, the one on Taylor Street. That way you can see a little bit of the neighborhoods. The Chicago boat tours to view the skyline are nice too. Navy Pier, of course.
Ed Debevic's is fun if you like getting insulted. Maybe get tickets to see Blue Man Group....the House of Blues has a wonderful Sunday brunch where they bring in gospel groups from around the city to entertain. I don't know your age or your interests but there is something for everyone.

Amp, what is the Blue Man Group? And is that different from the House of Blues? Could you elaborate. They sound very interesting.

Yep! Two different things, totally. Sorry for the confusion. House of Blues has live music and southern cuisine.
Blue Man Group is strictly a theatrical production and it is unlike any other. This multi-sensory experience featuring three enigmatic bald and blue characters combines theatre, percussive music, art, science and vaudeville to create a completely unique form of entertainment. People from all over the world, from all walks of life, and from all age groups have raved about Blue Man Group’s performances at the Briar Street Theatre and around the world.
