Doggy went home

He was here all day and getting tired and hungry and we were worried he might not be fed when he got home so mum eventually said to give him some cat food (We have Felix in the kitchen to feed Tabs, when ever he visits (a wandering cat that Henry seemed to like)), it's all we could give him, and it was getting dark so I got a lid for the bucket he destroyed and put the food on that. He sat. Stayed, though it took several more commands than usual (He was such a good dog). I dropped the lid onto the floor and he ate it all in about 3 seconds flat. I asked mum if I could give him another because that wasn't even a snack. She said okay but no more (because he's not ours and he might be fed when he gets home) it got darker and he started barking again now and then and I called mum to get her to hurry up because I was getting worried about him all alone in the cold and dark and hungry. I didn't want to open the door and pet him because he'd have jumped at me and I couldn't see everything so well in the dark.
Someone knocked on the door (I was dressed by then, in a red t-shirt I don't like, in case he slobbered me) so I opened the door. It was our neighbor, a sweet little lady who thought mum would be home by now and wanted to tell her about the dog in our garden, so she wouldn't be frightened (seeing a big dog in the dark) (So all the noise I've been making today didn't register at all then) She said he'd got in through a hole in her garden, ruined it and then jumped into ours. She said she'd called the police, the council, the RSPCA and they wouldn't do anything. She'd tried opening the back gate to let him out but couldn't (It was blocked by stuff to keep it shut and even if it wasn't it's a bugger to open when it is clear (as we later found out)) She said he's about 1 year old, he's just a puppy, (I'd estimated 2, but I don't know much about dogs) she'd spoken to the owners but they didn't care. She too noticed how quiet he'd been in our garden, He'd been such a good boy all day. Turns out her niece went to my university and got mugged right outside by another girl. That just fills me with confidence, then again, there are 4 campuses and a bar on each so I'd expect that kind of thing.
Eventually mum got home (after I'd felt sorry for the dog and fed him another cat food on another lid) She went to see him at the door. He has got such a lovely face. We opened the door for her to say hello to him and he got over excited. Mum's more used to dogs than me and she's sturdier so she wasn't afraid of him so much. He obviously noticed this because he was far more excitable than he was with me and we had trouble making him sit down so she could retreat inside, which makes me wonder even more at his intelligence, I wonder if he knew I was a bit scarred of him so he was calmer with me. He knew I wouldn't open the door unless he backed away and sat down calmly. Mum said we'd have to get a lead because he was a big dog and he needed to be on a lead other wise she couldn't control him (I hadn't thought him big big, well not bug my mum's standards of dog.) I looked them up, Alsatians are muscular dogs, strong dogs. So I went over the road to ask the dog lady for a lead (and a collar for the lead) she wasn't in. Eventually mum went round to the street behind and asked if they'd lost a dog. During this time I went out to watch the dog and I didn't want to over excite him by petting him but he wanted some attention and I felt sorry for him so I gave him a new bottle to chew while we waited. He was happy. Halfway through his chewing mum returned with the owner and we had to open the gate (which took a lot of effort). Turns out the dog's called Rocky, made me think of a rooster, for some reason it just seemed so unimaginative for this adorable, lively dog, but hey, it's his owner's choice, not mine. He had a collar to put on the dog and a lead. I wondered why he hadn't had the collar on in the first place. It makes sense. If you have a collar the dog wears it, then you can just clip on the lead and take him for walks and if he escapes he's easier to retrieve. He put the collar on, with great difficulty and the lead and the dog seemed happy to be going somewhere. Later mum told me she'd asked have you got a dog?
(Long pause) yes
is it an Alsatian?
what's an Alsatian?
Seems it's his brother's dog.
I've heard him barking. Mum didn't think they'd feed him. She'd said he was tired, cold and hungry but she doubted they'd feed him. I offered the possibility that the boy was stoned. It happens, that or just exceptionally stupid (as she figured). She doesn't think he gets taken for walks and is left outside all night.
We concluded though, that of all the gardens to break into, ours was the best in our street. It may be small but it's a bit longer than the others because we're right on the end, we're the only ones with a back gate (us and the dog lady across the road). Our garden's free of freshly planted plants and prized posies, just thorns and mud (there was my heartbreaker that we planted over Henry, that he half squashed by laying on, and the grass we planted just after he died (that was the only one of the original grave plants to survive, the heartbreaker came later)) our garden's fill of crap to play with, buckets and such and the odd old dog toy (he destroyed an old tennis ball that was falling apart anyway) the only plant he unpotted was a weed (mum'd bought a plant that died so we just left the pot there, then a weed started growing in it) also, I was here to keep an eye on him.
Well. Bluebiird out.
