Strange Thing Today

Rate this Entry
The strangest thing just happened to me and not sure if I shld be concerned.
I was out in my backyard with my dog doing some raking. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a Hummer stop in front of the house. I don't know anyone with a Hummer, so I continued working. Next thing I know I see a man standing in front of the house on a cell phone. My first reaction was maybe he is lost. Then I thought, maybe he wants to find out abt the apt we rent out. Our tenenat is moving out the end of the month and I thought oh great, the tenant told this person abt the apt. Next thing I know, the guy is walking up the side of the house and looking at it. I start to stare at him and he then asks me if I am the landlord. I tell him yes hesitantly and I thought, uh oh are we in trouble for some violation. He then starts ranting abt the tenant and how he would do some bodily harm to him. Seems this guy is our mail persons brother and our tenant has been saying strange things to her. He wanted to know how long I knew my tenants. I told him that they are moving out the end of the month. He relayed this back to someone while on the phone. Then he gets into his Hummer and drives off.
Now here is what I think is the strangest part. Our mailbox is by our front door. Both our mail and the tenants mail is put into this one box. The tenants door is on the side of the house. The mail person never puts the mail by the side door so I have no idea what my tenant has been doing to this person. Furthermore, my tenant is hardly home.
I am now kind of freaked out by this incident. I don't know if its true or if he somehow got the houses mixed up or if he was staking out the place for some type of heist. I shld have followed him back to his car and gotten his license plate number but not sure what I would have done with it. I don't want to get involved with my tenants issues especially if he is leaving the end of the month but then again I don't want anything to happen either.
What would you have done ?

Delicately inquire with my tenants about the situation, and alert the police.
That sounds incredibly suspicious to me, and not like something you want to get involved in, yet not something you'd want to just ignore, either.

Now that is strange, yes. Maybe as Becca said, you could talk about that with your tenants and see their reaction? I would do that just out of curiosity. That's fortunate that your tenants will soon leave.

I think it would be different way out here in the country. I would worry about it in the city or the country though

Honestly:blush: I would have called my husband. I'm the same girl who can't size up the bad areas of downtown, and I would likely just tell him what happened and leave it to him to handle. I'm the one with their head in the clouds out of us, so he is normally the one who catches that sort of thing. I likely would have never really noticed that there was a strange vehicle. Now, hindsight being 20/20 and all, I agree with Becca. I think I would mention the incident to my tenants first, and then I would notify the police if there was still cause for concern. Good luck since I'm sure it is the last thing you are wishing to worry over while working on your adoption. Take Care, Meg

Agree a carefully worded mention to the tenant would seem in order. I'm hoping the dude just got the address wrong.

Just thought I would update everyone since I posted this blog. Luckily nothing has happened since this incident. I have been tempted to say something to the mail lady but thought it would be best if I don't since our tenants are moving out Monday (YIPEEE!!!).
