I’m still happy. Why you ask. I shall tell you, but in chronological order.
This morning, I was running rather late and then I discovered that I’d run out of toothpaste. I’d been squeezing out every last bit as is humanly possible over the passed week. What was I to do?
I considered using mum’s but it’s too strong. I think I’ve already said it somewhere, but I’ll say it again. I’m allergic to mint.
Well, that may not be exactly true. It’s probably not an allergy. More like a serious hatred for some reason. But it’s easier to say allergic and that way people are less likely to bug you about it. So I had to call to mum and ask her where the other tube she bought a few weeks ago was. She was seriously grumpy and after a while of searching carrier bags she stormed upstairs and squeezed the remaining tube of toothpaste to death. Thankfully it gave up the very last of its contents.
I was very late after this. But when we got to school we found people outside. I guessed it was a fire ball and I was right. When it came to signing in I put down 9:15 instead of 9:20-25 because it sounded more like my usual time that way, and no one would know.
I wandered up to the library to look for a new book. I’d finished the third Chronicles of Narnia on Monday and, as the first three stories were all in one book and I hadn’t seen any others, I figured that the school was too cheap to have the rest somewhere. It was disappointing, knowing that the school wouldn’t have the others. I browsed the entire fiction section for a new book, but none sparked my interest. Then, I came to the older books, with yellowed pages and those horrible plastic covers that were sometimes on old text books. I wasn’t sure what I was looking for. And then, suddenly, something caught my glance. It was a book from the chronicles of Narnia series. My heart leapt. I think it was the Last Battle. I searched for the rest. They had them all, some more than others, all old and in those plastic covers. I say they had them all. All accept one. I went back to the volume I’d been reading to check what book was next. And, to my horror and utter dismay, it was the book I couldn’t find, Prince Caspian. I searched the top and middle shelf and was almost desperate enough to kneel down and look in the bottom shelves. But I had to postpone it as a class of lower years came in and I didn’t want them all watching me wandering around every shelf. And, besides, there was a very good chance that they were one of the groups that have to pick a book and read it (They were, I eavesdropped) and I thought if they see me over in the old section, they might want to know what I’m looking for and come over. Then one of them would pick up one of the books and go “This looks good” (Unlikely because they prefer footballers autobiographies, but there may have been a book worm in there somewhere) and they’d browse around and find Prince Caspian, start reading it and then take it out. It was unbearable to think of, that someone else should be reading it, especially when few, if any, even know that there was a book before the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe or that there are sequels. I decided to leave and go back after break. I decided I’d point out the name the in the book I’d been reading and ask the librarian if she had it, feeling sure that the one book I needed she wouldn’t have. Break felt so long. Finally I was able to creep back into the library. This time I grabbed the book and went to the desk, to do what I’d planned. I don’t know if it was premeditated or just coincidence, but as I approached her at her desk, she went into the back room. I waited patiently though a little angrily because I desperately wanted to read the next book. A teacher came in looking for her but she was still in the back room. I came up with a little plan to get her attention. Because It’s quite a thick book, it’s got some weight, even though it’s a paperback. I decided to casually bang (Well, not even that, more tap loudly really) the spine of the book on the desk, as if I was just resting it on the desk while I waited. It was a bit louder than I’d thought it would be. I’m not sure if that summoned her or if it was of her own accord, but she came out. She spoke to the teacher first, but I didn’t mind. Eventually she turned to me and I asked if she had this book, pointing to the name so that there could be no confusion as to what I was after. She read the name aloud and said she did have that book, but if it wasn’t on the shelf then someone must have taken it out. “State the bloody obvious!” I thought. But at least I had some evidence that the book was there somewhere. I got onto my knees and painstakingly searched every book on the bottom shelf. I still couldn’t find it. In dismay I went to the back of the fiction section, where the books for group reading are, like the Midnight Fox and Holes. I was determined to check every single fiction shelf before giving up. Then I spotted something that made my sinking heart leap. Individual books, not several group reading books were on the far shelf. I browsed every single spine. To my utter delight I found prince Caspian tucked away in a corner. He was an old copy, with yellow pages and a rather unflattering front cover, but I found him. I say him because the joy I felt made it need personifying to express my delight. I was soooo HAPPY! I sat down to read it straight away, as if afraid it would vanish in my hands. And now I know where the others are, I can finish what I started completely. I just felt so happy and thinking about it now I feel happy still.
The rest of the day is boring compared to that.
Red Nose Day tomorrow, and I’ve got to wear something red. I’m planning to wear my old red t-shirt under my school jumper. Red doesn’t suit me, but it was my form’s colour one sports day and we had to wear it. I’ll also try and wear that old red paperclip I fashioned into a ring a few years ago.
Well, I think I had homework due in tomorrow, I’ll check.
Bluebiird out.
Edit: Oh yes, and I got my results back today. They didn't make good reading. D for Wuthering heights, again and an E for business. I was just 3 points away from a C. It's so frustrating. i needn't have bothered retaking it at all.![]()
