a trip to the zoo

Rate this Entry
Yesterday was a blustery day! The kids and I packed a nutritious picnic, grabbed our jackets, and headed to the zoo. My sister’s boy and another family (two adults and four children) came along with us. We are in a small town so we don’t have a zoo. The trip to Springfield, MO is only about a hour and the other family led. The trip was uneventful but the other driver was faster than I am so I was very nervous. Lunch was fantastic fun but we had to keep a good hold on our plates or they would blow away. The kids played in the park at the zoo while we set up and then cleaned up the picnic.

Once we were in the zoo I spent the entire time counting. Nine kids at the beginning of each exhibit, nine at the end. The other couple’s oldest son is only 12, but 5’10” and I would forget to count him if his back was to me and then I would be in a little panic. Max is so young that he doesn’t remember going to the zoo last summer and he had a very good time. He thought that the kangaroos were giant bunny rabbets. We go to the Giraffes at 3:01 and the feeding deck closes at 3pm so that was a disappointment. I didn’t follow the other family home and had a very nice drive.

I got a sunburn on my face. It was the second day of spring, we all needed jackets, and somehow I got sunburned. I should have worn my garden hat.

Gas in Springfield was 2.91 so I filled up; gas cost 3.24 here at home. I’m sure there is a really good reason that gas should be .33 less up there.

Today Chaney and Skyler (my sister’s son) are volunteering at the hospital. They are going to color eggs with the patients. The rest of the kids and I will sit around the library while Bailey volunteers there. Then we may look around some second hand shops to see what little treasures they have. I have a big meal for tomorrow and don’t know what to fix yet but it will mean a trip to wal-mart and I think I would rather pull my own teeth. Once chores are done I need to start some homework because school is back in on Monday. That spring break flew by.

Soggy spring morning
Time to cook some breakfast and
Start a busy day.

I love zoos. We were at the zoo in Santa Barbara last summer when we were on vacation. You reminded me that I took some neat photos and meant to post them. I'll try to do that later today or tomorrow. There was a feeding deck for the giraffes there too. It'll make for a good blog. You know, I don't recall seeing kangaroos at any zoo. I wonder why.

I would love to go to the zoo. I haven't been in so long. And what about the price of gas? When is it going to go down? The answer is that it isn't going down. I was reading an article about it in the paper and according to some know-it-all, we need to just figure out how to get around without driving. sounds plausible....

Giant Bunnies???? You know what? I can actually see where Max is coming from.... Are you sure it was sun burn and not wind burn? can have the same effect and stings like hell.

That sounded like total fun! Sorry you burned your face, though. I enjoyed the haiku, too!
