Ok, some stuff first in relation to the comments from the previous entry. It's nice of you to help with my confidence by telling me its not that bad - but you dont have to worry, I know my limitations in the area & I have long since accepted them. I dont mind that lit is one of my poorer areas, I have other talents and read stories for the story ( hence I will in general avoid Joyce, but happilly read a commercial page-turner by the likes of Grisham or **shock-horror** Brown).
Anyway, here is the teacher's comments:
Ok, now my comments I should have made to the teacher:Drew,This one is even better than the first one; this has very little 'padding', almost every sentence makes a good point and there is very little repetition - well done.
You've also got the idea we discussed about being able to write pretty much the same essay whatever the question but still being able to put a response to the question in.
1) level of expectation: I was allowed to fly by this class, because I was in the idiot class nothing was expected of me. No grammar/spelling was ever corrected - they were just happy I turned something in.
2) Teaching to pass an exam vs understanding the subject: I was taught tricks to pass the exam, rather than how to understand how to approach the subject - it was a case of anything to pass even if it's a very low pass (58% was pass mark) that was taught to be all that matters so we spent the year working on one essay to be able to change it for any possible question. It was a wasted year.
So that's it.
