Yosemite in Winter

Thought I'd show some pictures from my recent trip to Yosemite National Park. I went there for a weekend shortly before I left California last week. It is, in my opinion, the most beautiful place on earth. My family stays there for a week every summer, but I've never been there in the winter. It was indescribably beautiful, and one of the most vivid experiences of my life walking around the snow filled valley with the immense cliffs rising up on every side. Being in that place is like a deep and refreshing drink for a parched soul.

Me Ice Skating for the first time in my life (I not only didn't fall down once, I learned how to do a little spin!) at what is almost certainly the ice rink with the best view anywhere:

    From 1970-71 I had the plesaure of several summer trips to Yosemite while stationed at Castle AFB (closed now). You are absolutely correct it is one of the beautiful places on earth. (Thankfully I never saw any snakes however as we camped out undere the stars one weekend with the Navigators Christian group I was associated with at the time. I remmeber Half Dome best after all these years.

    This is on my places to visit list---what a treat, and inspiration. I look at your photos and I think of all the layers of angles and dimensions this beauty unfolds for miles and miles to eternity. It also reminds me that my National Geographic subscription is almost due and that I better make out that check to keep what can be seen flowing. Thanks for sharing, Petrarch.

    I've spent a lot of time camping at Yosemite. My parents live in Modesto.
    And 'mountain spur' (sorry, that's how I read your name) I have a Castle AFB connection.

    Beautiful pictures. You know, of course, your picture is too dark and you can't be seen, though the scenery came out well.
