My Madness

Rate this Entry
This rather insane idea occured to me, and well it may remain just a pondering thought, but some day when I find myself bored I just might go through it.

The thought had occured to me to complie a list of every book I have. The reason this would be such sheer madness, is becasue even if that is all I did all day, from the moment I wake up untill I go to bed, there is a chance I still might not complete the task.

There are a couple of reasons why this idea occured to me, for one I have a bit of a obbessive compuslive disorder about keeping journals, or starting new ones, and for making lists of things.

Another it just seemed like it would interesting and entertaining to see what I have, and I love any excuse to play with my books

And the practicle reason, is becasue there have been a couple of times in which someone mentioned a titile and I thought, that sounds familair, and I will wonder if I have the book, but will have no idea where it is located, and do not want to go through all my books trying to find it. So if it were on a list I could just look it up and see.

With that being said, I think I do want to orginize the list alphabeticaly by author, but what I think I will do, is just first make a random list of all the books on it, starting with the smallest shelves and working up to the biggist and than go off that list to make a more orginized list.

But this may just remain a passing fancy, but who knows what might happen someday if I find myself sitting around bored.

DM, if you know how to use Excell spreadsheet, it will alphabetize for you. If you use a column for the title and a column for the author, then you can swich from one to the other.

Yes I did think of that, though I want to keep a written paper copy, I could just insert the information into excell to do the orginizing for me.

I agree with the list. I'm really primarily a comic collector but sometimes I don't have the want lists with me and I'll end up buying a copy of a mag I've already read. Too embarassed to bring it back so son Jim usually ends up with it. I'm all thumbs on spreadsheets. We dare not speak the lazy to learn comment too loudly.

Even a simple table in Word can put the list in alphabetical order. I keep a list of BBC Big Read books like that on my computer (alphabetised both according to title and author's name) to keep a track of the books I need to read.

I've tried to do it before, and always failed, but upon reading the comments and suggestions of others below, it sounds do-able.

I've done it!! It's definitely do-able!! Though I don't have it alphabetized; I just have it by genre. And it's fun to be able to add books to your list as you get them. I think I'm at 315!!
