Kurt Had A Birthday

Rate this Entry
Kurt Cobain would have had a birthday, had he lived.

On February 20th, 2008, I submitted this poem in the poetry section already, but I'd like to tuck it here in my blog -- kind of for me to keep track of my written stuff
[I made a minor revision to what was input in the Poetry Thread]

Twenty-seven candles
thats all that will ever be
on a cake that stands uneaten
you are a memory

Come As You Are my friends
to a Pennyroyal Tea
given in his honour
I'll sit with Polly

Gone but not forgotten
its a painful lot of hurt
I wished I could have known you
so Happy Birthday, Kurt

[p.s. for the records, and at the risk of people coming down hard on me ... I do NOT believe that Kurt committed suicide. I have my reasons.]

Well since it is you I will respect THAT. But he is always going to remind me of a stubborn guttersnipe I attempted to raise without carrying out the commision of a capital crime.

He didn't commit suicide??!! But...but...c'mon kiz, who had it out for him, Courtney?!! Just don't mess with my Foo Fighters singer!

By coincidence there is an article on ICV2.COM regarding the Foo Fighters suing Marvel comics for using some of their music in an ad campaign of soem sort--an offshoot company related to Marvel apparently. Shadesof the old Amy Grant/Dr Strange lawsuit.

I do think that Kurt committed suicide. I don't have a problem with this. He lived with such empathy. Its difficult to be that way.

hMM. I always loved their music. I love the fact that dave grohl is now a lead guitarist. Its tough to be loved by so many. Think of Heath Ledger. Ok, hugs to my favorite Canadian, and I love so many Canadians. PjB, B

hey kizzo, why do you think it wasn't suicide? I remember being really shocked when he died. I think my parents were in shock when John Lennon died - the musician of my generation was Kurt Cobain. Nirvana was great because it was so different from all the tired hair bands that just kept coming out with more "fun" rock songs and then power ballads over and over. And then Nirvana came out and it was a new sound, and it didn't follow the formula. There were also all these Bell Biv Devoe type groups on the pop radio station and I never was much of a fan of that kind of music and then there was Dr. Dre, but I was more into white guys with guitars at the time, so I knew more about what was going on with Nirvana. (Later I began to appreciate NWA and Dr. Dre and Death Row artists in general) And then "grunge" became a fad and somehow that detracted from Nirvana's greatness. But, I remember being young, and hearing Nirvana for the first time and and thinking, "Finally!" And I remember meeting people who thought Nirvana was lame because they were too mainstream or something. The whole thing was ridiculous. I guess Kurt can take his place along side Jimi and Janis. Or maybe just Jim Morrison. I don't listen to Nirvana much anymore, mainly because I listened to them so much when I was younger, and those sounds evoke memories that I don't want to have. I hope Francis Bean is okay with Courtney though. I liked Hole in high school and I could always hear Kurt coming through in the songs on Live Through This somehow.
