The Last Car Ride
You were such a little fellow
warm and fuzzy
with such big clumsy paws
and such a wet nose
that was always
in my face
You occupied your own
self-proclaimed spot
on the couch, and
we couldn't even have
a banana
without inviting you
My feet will be so cold
without your loving body
on top of them
warming me from
the bottom of my being
up to my heart
Your zest for life
was evident in that flag
we call a tail
eyes shining bright
always so full of beans
yes you were
Today we go into our car
and we will take you
to a new tomorrow
where your pain will end
and you can jump on "J" now
I want to thank you for
all the dander
all the spilled water bowls
all the crazy walks
but most of all
for loving me
unconditionally.

If there are no dogs in Heaven, I want to go where they go.
Love you Max
-----------------------
In my circle of friends, there exists a dog who was very much 'in your face', and has been for six years. Max got really ill at Christmas-time this year, and has not improved and is suffering greatly. So my dear friend was left with no recourse but to take Max for this last car ride. And I wrote this poem...
Max's favorite treat of all wasn't doggy biscuits, but bananas.... go figure!
