All The President's Men

I am A-political on the whole. Politics, as the Great Arthur C. Clarke wrote "is the Art of the Possible and only attracts Second Rate minds" and therefore I don't follow much politics

The only politics that interests me are policies that give every individual an opportunity to make something with their lives, enhance Social Justice for the people that are less fortunate than me, and the policies that protect our precious Earth of ours; and off course individuality, freedom and liberty! So it seems I am quite political? - nah! I am an Ideas Person than an activist

I think I would prefer a world run by a Giant Computer (I will build it - I am a computer programmer after all!;-)...but don't worry I will still ensure Hare Krishnas, Jehova's Witnessess etc are free to roam the airports ) - then we can get on doing the things that enjoy most like admiring Beauty of Jessica Alba, and being on LitNet all day, and chat about Birthdays and Haggis and eating Beavers ;-)

But now about the Topic - All the President's Men - I am off course refering to the possible Presidency of a first black President of the United States of America. It would off course be a wonderful thing! It would be the final emancipation of not only black population of America but all the ethnicities of the world that have taken refuge there. It would be wonderful to see a women president too but we had Maggie and we are still coming to terms with her legacy ;-( but then again she was not a "true" woman!

I have friend in New York who keeps me informed what's going across the pond. He left here about 12 years ago to cement that "Special Relationship" (whatever that is ;-)) by marrying an American gal. He has made a sucess of himself...and forgot all about England's Green and Pleasant Land ;-( but I am sure he will come back because we have History

Well, I certainly wouldn't want the country run by a computer. Hahaha. Good God how inhuman it could become. As to the other part of your blog, Mr. Obama is a decent man, one who I have respect for, but unfortunately does not share my political views at all. He is likable but he won't get my vote but I also won't feel so bad if he wins. (I do hope he beats the dickens out of Hillary in the primary, if I can just be allowed to be political in this one parenthtical sentence. ) Actually Colin Powell, had he decided to run in 1996, could and probably would have become the first black American president. Alas, he did not want to run.

I am always amazed at people who vote for someone 'because he is black' or 'because she is a woman', and 'that will be wonderful for the country'. I don't see the point in this. Voting for someone because he is black is the exact same thing as rejecting someone because he is black. I am appaled that the color of the skin, or the gender can influence such things, either positively or negatively. This has nothing to do with politics. I would vote for someone only for his political programme, whether he is black, white, pink or green. And even in voting for someone because of his political programme, I would feel bad and guilty anyway because I don't see why I would want to impose one type of ideas on a whole country.

Obiviously you don't vote by the colour of the skin! That would be ridiculous. It would be going backwards.

When Martin Luther King said "I have a dream..." his dream was not about people voting for by the colour of the skin! - it was about overcoming discrimination.

Women have been discriminated for thousands of years and the black population and other ethnic minorities of America for hundred of years. What way to see discrimination been overcome by seeing a black or women president? It also shows that society has created opportunities for everyone to achieve something with their life regardless of the colour of the skin or gender.

I enjoyed this entry AND the comments that my fellow Lit-Netters gave. It is always interesting to read about how people feel about different things we post in our blogs. Sweet's response was a good one, you go girl!
