E-Mail Blues

Was writing an entry yesterday that was not going well. So this will be attempt number two. One of the Litnetters wanted me to try corresponding via e-mail (for more room to type stuff). I had spent an evening typing something appropriate for the introductory e-mail but for the life of me I could NOT get my computer to send it to the proper address--at all. I rarely use e-mail so it's a mystery only to be more frustrating then Photobucket and why Logos would rather talk here to me (for free) when I can call her collect.![]()
Having put off the attempt to try again I was doing some other things on the computer. One of them was checking a website that is devoted to articles primarily on newspaper comics strips (along with a selection of comic book characters as well) and animated cartoon stars. If you want a history of old Fox and Crow cartoons this is the place.
My interest was in Zane Grey's King of the Royal Mounted. I had read and even printed the article from said website for my personal use of course and had been reading this site on and off for over a year now when (blind as a bat) I noticed a forum block. A quick check and I found myself well humbled in my ignorance of comic strip characters. Ever learning, ever learning but never arriving it seems.
I decided to register which I did and told said owner of the site that I'ld been reading him awhile, appreciated his range and asked if he knew when King ended its run--1954 or 1955--sources vary. The registration process said I would get a response within two days. Fine. Back to mahjong.
Now my fellow Litnetter made the remark that I better start getting up to speed on e-mail as my partner checks their mail daily. I had promised to send my affirmations in (by tonight) so I check to see if I have any more commiserations for my computer ineptness. None from that worthy but a nice note from the cartoon fellow.
At 12:25 pm his time. He did not know the answer but suggested I put it on the forum though he strongly doubted anyone would know. (We have long hoped that Kiz Paws might know where a stash of King strips could be found in Canada and now that I know the beloved Logos hails from there my scope expands. Ah collector fantasies and old ladies attic treasures. Do we really find Batman #1s in them anymore??)
Oh well. The night goes on. At about 10:30 last night or so I log on the e-mail again and find ANOTHER message from cartoon guy. Approx 8:25 pm.
At least I hope it wasn't.
This was short and sweet and taking me to task for making him jump thru hoops and being rude and don't write again. The spam blocker informs me there seems to be problems with this message. I strongly want to believe it is NOT cartoon guy but why would anyone else bother and why send one nice note then change your mind later. I start to brood and wonder. Then I trash/delete both messages. Was tempted to send both back to him with the view that I meant no harm and felt none rendered in asking a question related to the hobby and was this some sort of error in sending??
I decide to drop the matter. I delete his site from my favorites. I won't be missed. I console myself that comic book websites are run by very thin skinned people and the forums are rife with arguings and back stabbings and braggarts. I read to please me and I collect what pleases me -- not to make others drool with envy. Though I admit I would love to inherit Pendragon's library.
So--e-mail and I--will I ever find peace and happiness in its usage??
