Since Mother Hubbard expressed a kindred love of handicrafts after my description of the yarn store, I was inspired to post my most recent completed sweater. It was my Christmas gift to my mother, so I pulled out the stops: fine yarn, beading, cables, etc.:









I'm just plotting out the color pattern for my next project: a sweater for myself which will have nine colors. It's going to be a lot like the gradations in this sweater I made for a family friend, only with a different pattern:





It took a long time to figure out what kind of patterns would work well in knit for that sweater, but I ended up at Barnes and Noble (a dangerous place for temptation) on my way back from the UCI library yesterday and found a book called 1000 Great Knitting Motifs, which contains a huge variety of color knit designs from all over the world. It has already been fabulous for providing some fresh ideas that I can adapt into my own design work.

    WOW! You're good at that. I am jealous. Actually, my attempt at crochet resulted in a wad of yarn, so I guess I will leave the yarn crafts to the talented ones.

    Those look SO nice!! I am really jealous of you! I can crochet, but I have never done anything beyond afghans. I used to know how to knit, but I completely forgot how to! My sister-in-law bought me some knitting needles, yarn and a how-to book for Christmas. I highly doubt I will be as good as you anytime soon, but it is worth the try!

    Ok, that looks awesome! How many hours go into something like that? Its ridiculous how good it is. What type of yarn do you use... I would love to find the perfect wool knit handmade sweater. I'm sort of big into wool...its the durable natural fiber that keeps you warm don't you know. Cool Pics, B

    Petrarch's Love -- what beautiful sweaters you made, I stand in awe because those look better than anything I have ever found in a store! I agree with B with there being something good about sweaters ('specially where I live, ha ha!). Your mother is a lucky lady to sport a sweater made by you! Cheers, Kizzo
