Poem For Sweets_America

Rate this Entry

Four legged angels
trust our every move
protecting us from danger
filling us with love

Their needs are so little
their friendship so vast
there's nothing like a doggie kiss
to make a bad day pass

And though your beloved pet
has gone to sleep for now
his little life enriched your own
and that is what really counts.

Just wanted to write this poem for Sweets_America, who recently lost a very important part of her life, her pet dog.

Take care, Sweets, I am thinking of you.

Love,
Kizzo

I hope you know what a loving thing that was on your part, the poem for Sweets on the passing of Mabrouck.

    Sincereky,
    Mabrouck's brother-in-law

A very sweet poem, we've all shared in that loss at some point, very hard. Sorry to hear about your dog Sweets. Maybe there is a doggie heaven, you never know.

You are welcome, Sweets, my pleasure. And jon1jt, don't even doubt it -- when I die, that is where I want to go!

Awh, it's sad such a pretty poem and beautiful dog had to be the result of such a tragedy. Go to Walmart and buy the 2008 calendar with the three black labs on the front. I am.

First I share in the sentiment. A dog is like a family member, one that we know will only live to a dozen years or so. But let me just quibble a little with the ending of Kizzo's poem.
    And though your beloved pet
has gone to sleep for now
his little life enriched your own
and that is what really counts.
Yes it's true they have enriched our life. But Sweets should also be most satisfied that she enriched her dog's life. Her dog lived fourteen great years, was loved and treated well and probably lived as good a life as possible. That is all Sweets could have done. She could not have done any more. That is an equal exchange of love. And the satisfaction that one did all that one could do is what really counts.

Virge, so what you're saying is that love is, above all, a shared, reciprocated enterprise, one that participates in the highest form of love, what I see as a 'complex of love' between canine and human. I like that.

Fair enough, Virgil. Spoken like a true dog owner/lover

Yes of course I have enriched his life, I have learnt with him what unconditional love meant and I have done my best to give this kind of love to him. I would have done anything for him, and it was reciprocal. I've been very attached to him because I love my dogs as brothers and more, but also because I have been quite asocial for many years and they were the only persons who did not judge me, and with whom I could be myself. I just feel good among dogs. I feel better.

Yes Jon, it is reciprical. If it weren't the dog would be out in the streets scavenging for food.
